Back-to-School, Back-to-Blooms: Gifts Teachers Will Treasure

As the summer sun begins to fade and Murfreesboro’s schools swing open their doors, there’s a special excitement in the air. New pencils, crisp lesson plans, and fresh beginnings fill classrooms with possibility. But before the school year kicks into full gear, why not take a moment to show a little extra love and gratitude to the teachers who make it all happen?

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that small gestures create lasting impact. Whether you’re a parent looking to thank your child’s teacher, a student wanting to make a great first impression, or a fellow educator hoping to brighten up the teachers’ lounge, thoughtful flowers and gifts can speak volumes.

Let’s explore how to celebrate your favorite teachers with meaningful, memorable gifts they’ll treasure all year long.

Why Thoughtful Teacher Gifts Matter

Teachers do more than just educate—they inspire, encourage, and nurture. They shape minds, build confidence, and often invest time, energy, and even personal resources into their students’ success.

By gifting something thoughtful at the start of the school year, you:

 • Set a positive tone for the months ahead

 • Show genuine appreciation and support

 • Give teachers a moment of joy during their busiest season

And when you choose a gift from Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, you’re also supporting a local, women-owned, family-run business rooted right here on Murfreesboro’s historic square.

Keeping Flowers Fresh in the Summer Heat – Florist Tips

Summer in Tennessee brings endless sunshine, backyard barbecues, and front-porch relaxation—but it also brings one challenge we know all too well here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts: keeping flowers fresh and beautiful in the sweltering Southern heat.

Whether you’ve just received a stunning bouquet, picked up an arrangement for a special event, or love decorating your home with fresh blooms, knowing how to protect your flowers from summer’s soaring temperatures is essential.

As your trusted Murfreesboro florist, we’ve gathered our best florist-approved tips to help you enjoy your flowers longer—even on the hottest Tennessee afternoons.

Why Summer Heat Challenges Fresh Flowers

Flowers are living works of art, and just like us, they react to heat, humidity, and sunlight. During the summer, three factors threaten their longevity:

 1. Higher Temperatures – Heat accelerates dehydration, causing petals to wilt and colors to fade faster.

 2. Direct Sunlight – Prolonged exposure breaks down delicate floral tissues and speeds up blooming.

 3. Humidity & Airflow – While a little humidity can help, stagnant, heavy air can shorten a flower’s vase life.

 4.

But here’s the good news: with the right care, fresh flowers can thrive, even during Murfreesboro’s hottest months.

Veda’s Florist-Approved Tips for Summer Flower Care

1. Start with the Freshest Flowers 🌸

Quality matters, especially in summer. At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we hand-select every stem for maximum freshness. When you start with vibrant, healthy blooms, they’ll naturally last longer—even in challenging weather.

Pro Tip: Always ask your florist when flowers were cut. The fresher they are, the longer they’ll brighten your space.

2. Hydration Is Everything 💧

Summer heat pulls moisture from petals and leaves, so keeping flowers properly hydrated is critical.

 • Refresh the Water Daily – Bacteria grows faster in warm temps; fresh, cool water keeps stems clear and blooms hydrated.

 • Trim the Stems – Every day or two, snip stems at a 45° angle to open up the water pathways.

 • Avoid Overcrowding – Give stems space so they can drink freely without competing.

 •

At Veda’s, we provide our customers with a flower care packet that includes professional-grade nutrients to boost water absorption and extend vase life.

3. Keep Them Cool (But Not Cold) ❄️

Flowers love cooler environments—but not extreme cold.

 • Ideal Temperature: Aim to keep flowers in rooms around 65–72°F whenever possible.

 •

 • Avoid Hot Spots: Keep arrangements away from direct sunlight, AC vents, kitchen appliances, or anywhere temperatures spike.

 •

 • Refrigeration Tip: For special events, like weddings or porch styling, a gentle overnight chill can help flowers stay stunning longer—but avoid household fridges filled with produce (ethylene gas from fruits can shorten floral life).

 •

4. Avoid Direct Sunlight ☀️

While sunlight fuels flowers in the garden, cut flowers do better out of direct light.

Try This:

 • Place arrangements on shaded tables, mantels, or entryways.

 • For front porch décor, Veda’s recommends using heat-tolerant florals—like sunflowers, zinnias, or succulents—for outdoor summer styling.

 •

5. Choose Heat-Resistant Blooms 🌺

Some flowers naturally handle summer better than others. If your home or event is outdoors, opt for blooms known for durability in the heat.

Veda’s Summer Favorites:

 • Sunflowers – Hardy, cheerful, and long-lasting.

 • Zinnias – Vibrant, heat-loving, and low maintenance.

 • Orchids – Surprisingly resilient with proper care.

 • Succulents & Eucalyptus – Perfect accents for porch arrangements.

 •

Our team helps you choose flowers that match your event style and stand up to summer temperatures—so your arrangements stay beautiful longer.

6. Use Floral Preservatives 🌿

Floral preservatives are secret weapons for keeping blooms vibrant. They nourish flowers while preventing bacteria growth.

At Veda’s, every bouquet comes with a custom-blended preservative packet. Simply mix it into your vase water, and you’ll extend the life of your blooms by several days.

7. Refresh & Rearrange ✨

By midweek, some flowers may naturally fade—but that doesn’t mean the entire bouquet is done.

 • Remove Spent Blooms: Snip away any petals or stems past their prime.

 • Re-cut & Refill: Give the remaining stems a fresh cut and clean water.

 • Downsize Arrangements: Move surviving blooms into smaller bud vases for a refreshed look.

 •

This simple routine can turn a seven-day bouquet into a ten-day delight.

Special Tips for Outdoor Events 🌿☀️

If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, summer soirée, or porch display, your flowers need extra care.

 • Use Floral Foam: Helps hold water and keeps arrangements hydrated longer.

 • Misting Magic: Lightly mist petals every few hours for an instant refresh.

 • Strategic Timing: For major events, ask Veda’s to deliver flowers as close to the start time as possible to ensure maximum freshness.

 •

Our floral team specializes in outdoor arrangements and knows exactly which flowers, techniques, and designs withstand Tennessee’s summer heat best.

Front Porch Florals: Welcoming Guests Southern-Style

There’s something magical about a Southern front porch. It’s where neighbors pause to chat, sweet tea is sipped slowly, and the welcome starts before the door ever opens. Here in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, your front porch isn’t just an entryway—it’s a statement of hospitality, personality, and charm.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe your porch can be more than just a landing spot; it can tell a story. Whether you’re preparing to welcome friends, hosting out-of-town guests, or simply soaking up the last rays of summer, nothing sets the tone quite like beautiful, thoughtfully designed florals and décor.

In this guide, we’ll share Southern-inspired floral ideas, seasonal design trends, and creative tips to transform your porch into a space that feels like a warm embrace—all while showing you how supporting local can make your home even more meaningful.

The Southern Front Porch: A Tradition of Welcome

In the South, hospitality is a way of life. It’s woven into our Sunday suppers, neighborly conversations, and even the way we decorate our homes.

The front porch has always been a symbol of connection and community—a place to wave at passersby, greet guests, and savor the slower pace of small-town living.

Florals have long been part of this tradition, too. From lush hanging ferns on Victorian porches to baskets of seasonal blooms welcoming visitors, flowers offer a timeless way to say, “We’re glad you’re here.”

At Veda’s, we help you bring that tradition to life with locally inspired designs that feel fresh, personal, and uniquely Southern.

Seasonal Inspiration: Late Summer into Fall

As we transition from sunny Tennessee summers into the crisp coziness of autumn, your porch can reflect the best of both seasons:

 • Late-Summer Blooms – Dahlias, zinnias, and sunflowers create a cheerful palette of golds, oranges, and corals. Pair with potted petunias or calibrachoa for vibrant bursts of color.

 • Early Fall Accents – Think copper tones, muted greens, and cream florals nestled alongside miniature pumpkins, cotton stems, and rustic lanterns.

 • Statement Wreaths – Swap out lighter summer wreaths for ones featuring eucalyptus, magnolia leaves, and dried hydrangeas—classic Southern charm with an autumn twist.

 •

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we curate seasonal porch arrangements that blend nature’s beauty with Southern hospitality.

Whether you want a show-stopping floral installation or a simple touch of charm, our designers create pieces that match your home’s personality perfectly.

Front Porch Florals That Welcome with Style

Here are some of our favorite floral styles for Southern-inspired front porches:

1. Statement Planters

Large urns or ceramic pots overflowing with seasonal blooms make a powerful first impression. For late summer, go bold with bright zinnias, ornamental grasses, and cascading ivy. As fall approaches, swap in mums, ornamental kale, and mini gourds.

2. Hanging Elegance

A Murfreesboro classic! Hanging baskets filled with ferns or trailing flowers like petunias add vertical beauty and soften the porch. Our designers at Veda’s customize baskets to complement your porch’s size, color, and sunlight exposure.

3. Floral Door Décor

Move beyond the traditional wreath! Think fresh floral swags, asymmetrical garlands, or rustic bundles tied with burlap ribbon. Each piece is handcrafted to give your home a personal touch of Southern elegance.

4. Cozy Vignettes

Combine florals with lanterns, rocking chairs, and vintage crates to create inviting nooks. Our porch floral packages at Veda’s include accessories that tie the entire look together, saving you the guesswork.

Entertaining Starts at the Door

In the South, gatherings often begin before guests step inside. Whether you’re hosting a fall football watch party, a bridal shower brunch, or a holiday open house, your front porch sets the mood.

A few ways to make it unforgettable:

 •

 • Add a scented floral display near the entryway for a sensory welcome.

 • Use seasonal centerpieces on side tables or porch swings.

 •

 • Include personalized touches—like mini bouquets tied with guest name tags for special events.

 •

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we specialize in event-enhancing florals that transition seamlessly from porch to tablescape. Our team works closely with you to create designs that make guests feel treasured from the moment they arrive.

Supporting Local: More Than Just Beautiful Blooms

Decorating your porch beautifully is rewarding—but where you shop makes a difference, too.

When you choose Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, you’re supporting a women-owned, family-built small business that’s been lovingly rooted in Murfreesboro’s historic square.

Every purchase helps us:

 • Strengthen our local economy

 • Support fellow small businesses in our community

 • Keep the charm and character of our town alive

 •

Shopping local means investing in relationships. Our team knows your style, remembers your favorite colors, and celebrates life’s milestones right alongside you. That’s something no big-box retailer can replicate.

Floral Trends for Southern Porches

Looking for ideas that feel current yet timeless? Here are a few trending styles we’re loving this year:

 • Monochromatic Florals – Choose one color family for a chic, understated vibe.

 • Dried & Preserved Accents – Perfect for Tennessee’s fluctuating temps, these last longer and add earthy tones.

 • Native Blooms – Showcase the beauty of local Tennessee wildflowers, blending authenticity with sustainability.

 • Layered Looks – Combine textures, heights, and colors to give your porch more depth and visual interest.

 •

Faith, Family & Florals: What Sets Veda’s Apart

For us, florals are more than decoration—they’re part of our family’s legacy and a reflection of our values. Veda’s Flowers & Gifts was built on faith, perseverance, and the belief in community.

Every bouquet, wreath, and porch arrangement carries a little bit of our story:

 • A love of beauty and creativity

 • A passion for neighborly connection

 • A commitment to making moments meaningful

 •

When you bring home a Veda’s arrangement, you’re carrying more than flowers—you’re inviting a little bit of our family’s heart into your home.

Just Because — Why Summer Flowers Matter Most

In a world where we often wait for birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays to express love and appreciation, there’s something beautifully refreshing about giving flowers “just because.”

And as July blazes on with bold sunshine and long, lazy days, there’s no better time to embrace that spontaneous gesture.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, located on the historic Murfreesboro Public Square, we believe that summer isn’t just a season — it’s a state of heart.

It’s when bright colors burst forth, laughter lingers longer, and small moments take on new meaning. And that’s why summer flowers matter most.

The Power of “Just Because”

Giving flowers without an occasion is a quiet act of rebellion in a fast-paced, task-oriented world. It says:

 • I was thinking of you.”
 • You matter to me.”
 • Here’s a little joy, just because.”

These simple gifts often land the loudest. Why? Because they’re unexpected. No calendar reminder or social obligation prompted them — only heart.

And during summer, when life slows just enough for reflection, these spontaneous gestures feel especially meaningful.

☀️Why Summer is the Perfect Time for Surprise Flowers

We’re often asked, “Do people really buy flowers in the heat of July?” The answer is a bright and blooming yes. And here’s why:

1. Color Cravings Run High

Summer ignites our senses. We crave the bold hues of sunsets, citrus fruits, fireworks, and blooming fields. Flowers are nature’s palette — and right now, it’s set to vivid. Whether it’s hot pink roses or orange lilies, July flowers satisfy our need for brightness and beauty.

2. A Mood Boost, Naturally

Studies have shown that flowers can lift your mood, reduce stress, and even increase feelings of connection. During the lull between spring celebrations and the buzz of back-to-school, a spontaneous floral delivery can be just the pick-me-up someone needs.

3. Summer Is Made for Slowing Down

Without the frenzied energy of holidays or major milestones, summer invites us to be present. And what better way to celebrate the present moment than with something as ephemeral and lovely as fresh blooms?

4. Self-Love Blooms Too

More and more of our customers are sending flowers to themselves. A fresh arrangement on your dining table, desk, or nightstand brings daily joy. It’s a small act of self-kindness with a big impact.

5. Moments That Deserve Color

Summer hosts its own quiet milestones—like finishing a big project, finally taking that beach day, or simply making it through a tough week. These moments may not call for cake, but they absolutely deserve flowers.

What’s Blooming in July at Veda’s?

At Veda’s, we specialize in crafting bold, beautiful arrangements using the brightest seasonal blooms. Our July favorites are chosen not just for their beauty, but for how they feel — warm, vivid, expressive, and full of heart.

This Month’s Standout Flowers:

 • Sunflowers – Joyful and strong, like a Southern summer.
 • Hot Pink Roses – Romantic with a punch of playfulness.
 • Orange Lilies – Fiery, fragrant, and full of personality.
 • Gerbera Daisies – Cheery and colorful like confetti.
 • Green Hydrangeas – Cool, voluminous, and grounding.
 • Alstroemeria – Intricate and long-lasting; perfect for texture.
 • Carnations in Citrus Hues – Underrated and ultra-resilient.

Each bloom is selected for its quality and color impact. And our designers love mixing these varieties into personalized “Just Because” arrangements — some wild and garden-like, others classic with a summer twist.

Bold & Lush or Classic with a Pop?

Whether you’re sending flowers or treating yourself, your floral style matters. At Veda’s, every bouquet is handcrafted with your personality in mind. Two popular summer styles include:

Bold & Lush

Love color? Love drama? This is your lane. We’re talking tall stems, vibrant hues, and eye-catching textures.

Perfect for artists, extroverts, and anyone who wants to make a statement.

Blooms to look for: Sunflowers, lilies, roses, gerbera daisies, wild greenery.

Classic with a Pop

This style whispers elegance but still wants a little surprise. Maybe it’s a soft white base with a single hot pink accent, or a neutral arrangement wrapped in a patterned ribbon. Timeless with a twist.

Blooms to look for: White hydrangeas, cream roses, delicate greenery, a bright focal bloom.

Can’t decide? Let us design a custom arrangement for you based on color preference, mood, and style. Just visit vedasflowers.com and leave us a note!

Love in Bloom – Even in July

Weddings may peak in spring and fall, but summer brides hold a special kind of magic. At Veda’s, we design wedding bouquets and event florals that match not just the season, but your personality and vision.

From tropical garden-style bouquets to elegant Southern charm, our summer bridal designs are bursting with:

 • Bright seasonal blooms
 • Lush textures and greenery
 • Custom color palettes that pop in sunlight and photos

We love working with couples to create something meaningful, bold, and completely you.

Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

Historic Murfreesboro Public Square ❤️

Bold. Local. Always in Bloom.

Stars, Stripes & Sweet Family Time: A Fourth of July Message from Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

As fireworks light up the Tennessee sky and flags flutter along the streets of historic downtown Murfreesboro, we at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts pause each year for a cherished tradition of our own—closing our little shop on the square for some extended days in early July for the enjoyment of family, reflection, and freedom.

Yes, you heard it right! While others may be picking up last-minute supplies or running errands, we’re soaking in precious time with loved ones, we’re on the beach, or by the pool, maybe on a cruise or just chasing fireflies with the kids, grilling in the backyard, and giving thanks for the incredible gift of independence… and of course, for you—our community.

This July 4th, we wanted to take a moment to share a little behind-the-scenes sparkle with you and let you know why this time of year is so meaningful to us, even when our doors are temporarily closed.

Why We Close for the Fourth (And Why We Hope You’ll Celebrate Too!)

At Veda’s, family isn’t just a priority—it’s the heartbeat of our business. Since opening our doors eight years ago in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic public square, we’ve built more than a flower shop. We’ve built a legacy of faith, perseverance, community, and love.

And the Fourth of July? It’s our chance to take a deep breath and take some much-needed vacation time whether we jet off to another part of the world or just stay local in staycation mode.

Like others that typically schedule their summer vacations in early July, we do the same and press pause and celebrate those very same values with the people who matter to us most.

It’s a time when our team trades flower stems for sparklers, floral deliveries for backyard barbecues, and customer calls for kids’ laughter echoing across porches.

We believe in working hard—but we also believe in rest, renewal, and the joy of unplugging for a bit. Just like fresh flowers need time to bloom, so do we.

Red, White & YOU: Supporting Small, Supporting Local

Independence Day is all about honoring our nation’s story—its fight for freedom, its resilient spirit, and its people. And here in Murfreesboro, there’s no better way to celebrate that spirit than by supporting local businesses.

Every time you choose to shop at Veda’s—whether it’s a birthday bouquet, a sweet “thinking of you” gesture, or a holiday centerpiece—you’re not just supporting us. You’re fueling an entire local ecosystem of dreamers, doers, and small-town go-getters.

From local candle makers and artisans, to delivery drivers and downtown event organizers, your support creates a ripple effect that lifts all of us. It’s the very definition of community—and it’s one of the things we’re most grateful for every single day.

So, from the bottom of our red, white, and blue hearts: thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of small businesses, and thank you for being part of our story.

Our Favorite Ways to Celebrate the Fourth in Murfreesboro 🇺🇸

Even though Veda’s is closed over the holiday, you can bet we’re still soaking in the local fun! Here are a few of our favorite Fourth of July traditions in and around Murfreesboro:

 • Celebration Under the Stars at the Fountains at Gateway – Live music, food trucks, and one of the best fireworks shows around. Pure Murfreesboro magic.

 • Backyard BBQs with local meats and fresh corn from the Rutherford County Farmers Market.

 • Old Glory Runs – Nothing says freedom like a morning jog or walk through our beautiful neighborhoods, flags waving proudly.

 • Porch Time with Lemonade and Laughter – Sometimes, the best memories are the simplest ones: a rocking chair, some ice-cold sweet tea, and your favorite people nearby.

We encourage you to take a break, unplug, and make memories. Whether you’re hitting the lake, manning the grill, or just watching the fireworks light up your kids’ faces—those are the moments that make life beautiful.

Flower Power and Patriotism

While we’re enjoying our brief holiday pause, don’t worry—we’ll be right back after the festivities, fully recharged and ready to fill your lives with beauty again.

And if you’re planning ahead, flowers are a perfect way to keep the celebration going! Whether you’re hosting a belated get-together or sending love to someone who couldn’t join the family fun, our patriotic arrangements and summer-inspired bouquets will be waiting when we reopen.

Nothing says “I’m thinking of you” like a burst of sunflowers, a vase full of red roses and white lilies, or a fresh arrangement that brings the warmth of summer indoors.

A Toast to Freedom, Family, and the Future

As we mark another Independence Day—and another year of serving this incredible community—we’re reminded that our greatest blessings aren’t just the flowers that bloom in our shop, but the people who walk through our door, share their stories, and trust us to be part of their special moments.

We may be a small business, but our hearts are full. This July 4th, as fireworks illuminate the sky and laughter fills the air, we’re raising a virtual toast:

To freedom.
To family.
To faith and fun.

And to you—our friends, customers, and community—who make it all possible.

When We’re Back

Just a heads-up for our wonderful customers:

Veda’s Flowers & Gifts will be closed from July 4th through July 13th to give our team a much-deserved summer break. We’ll be back to business on Monday, July 14th, refreshed and ready to help you celebrate all of life’s moments.

If you’d like to pre-order for pickup or delivery after the 6th, you can always visit our website:

Final Petal of Wisdom 🌼

As you gather with friends, light those sparklers, and wave those stars and stripes, take a moment to remember the real beauty of this holiday: the chance to slow down, appreciate the blessings around you, and share joy with the ones you love.

That’s what we’ll be doing—and we hope you will too.

From all of us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, Happy Fourth of July, Murfreesboro!

In early June, something amazing and unexpected happened in Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

A zebra named Ed escaped from his new home and turned the town into the setting of a wild and wonderful story.

Ed had just arrived at his new farm home in Christiana, just outside Murfreesboro. He didn’t waste any time making headlines. Only one day after getting settled in, Ed made a break for it. Before anyone could blink, he was spotted running down Interstate 24—yes, a zebra, trotting along a busy highway like it was the plains of Africa.

People started posting videos and pictures of Ed everywhere. He ran through yards, peeked into driveways, and even showed up on doorbell cameras like a celebrity on tour.

Everyone was talking about Ed, and Murfreesboro turned into the center of zebra news across the country. The internet had a field day. AI generated Memes and Cartoons exploded across Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.

Some showed Ed having breakfast at Waffle House. Others joked that Murfreesboro had joined the African savannah on zebra migration maps.

Songs about Ed have been coming out left and right. Click Here to listen to a cute Country Music rendition.

Someone even created a Country Music Video about Ed the Zebra, spotted in other parts of Tennessee.

Local bakeries joined in the fun, too. One made a zebra-striped cake, while kids decorated cupcakes with black and white icing. Ed even had a few children’s books written about him.

People laughed, sang, baked, and shared stories. Even though he was technically on the run, Ed was bringing the community together.

As the days passed, local authorities and wildlife experts worked hard to find and safely bring Ed home. They tried using tranquilizer darts, but Ed’s zebra hide was tougher than expected, and he kept outsmarting them.

That’s when things got even more unbelievable. The team brought in a Texas-based helicopter crew called Tango 82 Aviation. On June 8, they finally spotted Ed in a wide open pasture.

The helicopter crew carefully flew in, dropped a special net, and gently scooped Ed up from the field. Video showed Ed dangling in the air, wrapped in a net, calmly flying like a superhero.

It looked like something out of a movie—and people loved it. Ed was brought back to his owners, safe and sound. He had a full checkup and seemed completely fine, just a little tired from all the excitement. His owners were grateful.

So were the neighbors, who had enjoyed every minute of the zebra chase. At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts—the little flower shop on the square—we couldn’t help but fall in love with Ed’s story.

It reminded us of what makes small towns like Murfreesboro so special. Here, a zebra running wild becomes more than news—it becomes a celebration.

Just like a fresh bouquet, Ed’s adventure brought color, smiles, and joy to everyone around.

Neighbors come together. Laughter fills the air. Cakes are baked. Songs are sung. And memories are made. Ed may not have planned to be famous, but he showed us all how a little bit of wild fun can brighten our day.

So here’s to Ed the Zebra—Murfreesboro’s very own striped legend. And if you want to keep the fun going, stop by our shop and ask for our “Ed-Inspired” bouquet.

It’s intrigue, adventure and a playful black-and-white striped happy ending—because sometimes, the best stories are the unexpected ones.

Ed the Zebra Joke of the Day…

You know why Zebras have stripes?

Because they don’t like being spotted

From all of us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, thanks for sharing the laughs. We hope you keep smiling, keep sharing joy, and always be ready for something wonderful—even if it’s a zebra on the run.

Just About Ready to Debut – The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog

Well, hello there! If you’ve found your way to this page, you’ve officially discovered “The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog,” and we’re so glad you did. We’ve been dreaming of launching this little storytelling corner for quite a while now.

Originally, we thought it would bloom sometime before Valentine’s Day (a natural time for a florist, right?). But as life would have it, things got a little… busy. Between wrapping bouquets in pink ribbon, prepping Valentine’s specials, and tending to our ever-growing list of meaningful projects, our blog had to wait patiently in the wings.

That said, sometimes delays lead to better timing, and here we are—just about ready to debut. We’re thinking it will be ready for its official launch debut sometime towards mid- July 2025.

We hope this blog becomes more than just a place to share news and updates. We want it to be a window into our world, filled with stories from the shop, everyday moments, real-life happenings, creative sparks, and the little lessons that come from working in a small, soulful business like ours.

So, let’s pull back the curtain and share what’s been happening behind the petals…

Real Life, Real Flowers, Real Joy

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe in blooming where you’re planted. For us, that’s right here in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic downtown public square.

We’re proud to be a women-owned, family-operated business that blossomed from love, perseverance, and a whole lot of heart. We like to say that we’re more than a flower and gift shop—we’re a little slice of home. A place where faith and community come together. Where you’ll hear laughter in the back room, smell fresh blooms from the front door, and see hands working tirelessly to craft something beautiful—one bouquet at a time.

But flowers, like life, are never just one thing. They’re part joy, part challenge, part surprise. And that’s exactly the kind of mix we want to bring to this blog.

We’ll be writing about:

The day-to-day magic (and chaos!) of running a flower shop. The behind-the-scenes of our busiest seasons. Stories from customers and community events that make us smile. Reflections on faith, family, and finding beauty in the ordinary. Plus, floral tips, gift ideas, seasonal favorites, and so much more. It won’t always be perfectly polished, but it will always be authentic—just like everything we do.

The Swag Shop is Blooming, Too

Now let’s talk about one of the projects that pushed this blog slightly down the to-do list: The Swag Shop!

Yes, that’s right—Veda’s Swag Shop: The Merch Marketplace of the Little Flower Shop on the Square is officially coming to life. Developing this line of merchandise has been a labor of love. We didn’t want to just slap our name on a mug and call it a day although, let’s be honest—who doesn’t love a cute coffee mug with flowers or a small business logon it?

We wanted to create inspiring, meaningful, and community-driven products that reflect who we are and what we believe in. Every item we design carries a little piece of our story—whether it’s about Murfreesboro pride, floral charm, or that everyday encouragement we all need from time to time.

Here’s what you can expect to find:

 • Shop Local” themed gear – Because supporting your hometown matters
 • Floral-inspired apparel and gifts – Perfect for plant lovers and flower fanatics
 • Seasonal designs – Think springtime shirts, Christmas cozies, fall-themed totes, and more
 • Uplifting messages and meaningful quotes – From shirts to stickers to journals

We’re still in the testing phase of our payment processors (tech is a whole different kind of flower arranging!), but everything is looking great, and we’re adding new items weekly.

Keep checking back by clicking that “SWAG SHOP” button on our upper navigation bar to see what’s fresh off the design table.

Why We Do What We Do

We’ve always believed that flowers can do more than brighten a room—they brighten lives. Every bouquet we send out is part of someone’s story:

 • A first date turned forever.
 • A memorial for a beloved mother.
 • A “just because” arrangement that brought unexpected joy.
 • A tiny bud vase given to a teacher who made a difference.

These aren’t just transactions—they’re moments, and they matter. So, when we say we’re passionate about what we do, we mean it.

Our blog is simply one more way to celebrate those moments with you. To show the heart behind the counter. To lift the veil on the “why” behind every petal.

A Community That Nurtures Us

We’d be nowhere without the Murfreesboro community that surrounds and supports us. Being a part of the downtown public square means being part of something historic, intimate, and wonderfully alive.

We love watching families stroll by, seeing locals gather for events, and hearing the same friendly voices return week after week. And we’re proud to be part of the “shop local” movement that keeps this area thriving.

Every purchase at Veda’s—whether it’s a flower arrangement, a handmade gift, or a piece of swag from our shop—fuels not just our family business, but a network of others who believe in putting heart into their craft. When you shop with us, you support:

 • Moms and daughters working side by side
 • Local artisans and small-batch makers
 • Downtown vitality and entrepreneurial dreams

It’s powerful stuff, and we’re endlessly grateful to be a part of it.

What’s Coming Next

So what’s next on the horizon, maybe already thinking ahead into the 2026 season? Besides launching this blog (?) this year and expanding our Swag Shop, we’re gearing up for:

 • Seasonal floral specials
 • Maybe a new DIY flower bar events
 • Maybe Workshops (think: wreath making, bouquet arranging, or holiday décor classes!)
 • More community collaborations and pop-up markets
 • And yes, more blog posts like this one!

If you’re reading this, we’d love to have you along for the ride. Bookmark this blog, follow us on social media, or stop by the shop and say hello. You’re part of our story now—and we’re so glad you are.

In Closing: The Joy is in the Journey

Starting a blog later than expected isn’t a failure—it’s real life. And just like a flower, sometimes things take a little longer to bloom. But when they do? The joy is worth the wait.

Thank you for being here, for cheering us on, and for believing in small-town charm, community values, and the kind of business where love is wrapped in every delivery.

We can’t wait to share this new chapter with you. With all our petals and all our heart, Yours truly, Veda’s Flowers & Gifts Family

P.S. Got a blog topic you’d love us to write about? A local event you think we should highlight? A funny flower shop story you want to hear? Drop us a line—this blog is for you, after all.

Your Front-Row Seat to Valentine’s Day at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

If you’ve ever wondered what it feels like to be at the epicenter of a Valentine’s Day whirlwind, step inside Veda’s Flowers & Gifts—affectionately known around town as “the little flower shop on the square.”

Nestled in the heart of historic Murfreesboro, TN, this cozy shop doesn’t just sell flowers. Oh no, it stages an all-out, pedal-to-the-metal, adrenaline-fueled spectacle every February 14th. And guess what? You’re about to get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how it all goes down.

For florists like us, Valentine’s Day isn’t just a date on the calendar—it’s a multi-day, caffeine-driven dance where romance, logistics, and community collide. The planning starts weeks out, but when showtime finally arrives, it’s game faces on.

You’re in the Middle of the Action

Imagine walking through the front door on Valentine’s morning. The scent of roses, lilies, and fresh greenery immediately envelopes you, and the energy is electric. You see the floral designers—our dream team—clipping, arranging, and tying ribbon like seasoned magicians. Their fingers blur as they turn stems into showstoppers faster than you can say “Be Mine.”

Nearby, the front desk buzzes like a hive. Calls come in rapid-fire: “I need something special for my wife!” “Do you still have red roses?” “Can you deliver to my sweetheart’s office before noon?” Meanwhile, walk-ins add another layer of excitement, all eager to find the perfect expression of love.

You quickly realize—this isn’t just flower arranging. It’s artistry combined with the precision of a military operation.

The Delivery Heroes You Didn’t Know You Needed

Now, peek out the back door. That’s where you’ll catch a glimpse of our delivery drivers, those unsung cupids-on-wheels. They’re loading vans and cars with care, juggling carefully labeled arrangements and bags of chocolates like seasoned pros. You’ll spot them darting through the streets of Murfreesboro all day long, spreading joy one doorstep at a time.

And when they tell you they live for this day, they mean it. The smiles they witness? Priceless. From wide-eyed kids getting surprise bouquets at school to coworkers clapping as a lucky recipient blushes in an office lobby—it’s a reminder that this job delivers happiness, quite literally.

It’s More Than Just Roses

Sure, red roses are the rock stars of the day—you’ll see them everywhere—but here, you’re surrounded by an entire garden of possibilities. Gerbera daisies as bright as a Tennessee sunrise, elegant tulips, show-stopping orchids, and wildflower-inspired mixes that look freshly picked from the countryside.

You might overhear someone say, “I want something a little different this year.” That’s when our designers light up, ready to flex their creative muscles. Whether it’s a modern, minimalist bouquet or a lush arrangement bursting with color and texture, every creation tells a story.

Behind the Scenes: A Well-Oiled Valentine’s Machine

What you won’t always see, though, is the careful planning behind every rose petal and ribbon. It’s like an intricate puzzle that starts weeks in advance.

Inventory? Checked, double-checked, and yes, triple-checked. (Especially this year, when a supplier sent part of our order to the wrong city—cue the frantic phone calls!) Lucky for us, PLAN B and PLAN C saved the day. You don’t survive this industry without a little backup magic.

Staffing? Perfectly orchestrated. Extra designers, delivery drivers, and front desk wizards are all scheduled with military precision to handle the incoming tidal wave of lovebirds.

Delivery routes? Optimized like clockwork. Each address is plotted to ensure your bouquet arrives right when it should—because timing is everything when it comes to romance.

Keeping the Crew Fueled

But here’s a secret: even love warriors need sustenance. At Veda’s, we believe that you can’t power through Valentine’s Day on adrenaline alone.

In the early hours, coffee flows freely, and doughnuts disappear in record time. By midday, the back office becomes a warm retreat as the aroma of homemade chili fills the air. Crockpots bubble away, surrounded by bowls of shredded cheese, diced onions, sour cream, and plenty of crackers.

And here’s the best part—you never know who will be at the table. Sure, it’s our crew digging in, but there’s also family, friendly neighbors, police officers, mail carriers, and even the occasional Amazon driver who “happens” to stop by right around lunchtime. That’s just how we roll at Veda’s. Around here, everyone is family.

The Magic You’re Part Of

By mid-afternoon, you’re watching a well-oiled machine running on all cylinders. A designer shouts, “I need more eucalyptus!” while someone else is tying bows at lightning speed. The cooler doors open and close like clockwork as arrangements are staged for pickup.

And then there are the customers. Each one has a story.

You see a father surprising his young daughter with her favorite pink roses. A teenager nervously picking out a first-date bouquet. A couple married for 40 years holding hands as they select a perfect arrangement together. This is what keeps the heart of our little shop beating strong—it’s more than business. It’s tradition, it’s love, and it’s deeply personal.

Out on the Road: Where the Real Magic Happens

Now, picture yourself riding shotgun with one of our drivers. As you pull up to each destination, there’s a moment of anticipation. Will it be laughter? Tears? A happy gasp?

You’re part of that perfect surprise moment. The recipient’s eyes light up, and for a second, everything else fades away. That bouquet in your hands just made someone’s day. And you realize—this isn’t just a delivery. It’s an experience. One that lingers far beyond February 14th.

The Afterglow

When the sun finally sets and the last bouquet is handed off, you’re back at Veda’s. The shop is quieter now. Flower buckets sit empty, stray ribbons rest on tables, and a soft glow of accomplishment fills the air.

You sit with the team, swapping stories, sharing laughs, and soaking in the pride of a job well done. Another Valentine’s Day in the books.

But before you know it, someone’s already jotting down ideas for next year. Because at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, planning never truly stops, and we wouldn’t have it any other way.

More Than a Shop—A Community Staple

Here’s the thing you’ll carry with you after your day at Veda’s: this isn’t just a flower shop. It’s a part of Murfreesboro’s heartbeat. We’re woven into the love stories, the friendships, and the everyday kindnesses that make this town special.

And when next Valentine’s Day rolls around? You can bet we’ll be here, ready to make the magic happen all over again.

Because love? Love is worth every early morning, every late night, every last petal.

Love in Full Bloom: The Valentine’s Day Symphony at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

Weeks before February 14th, the air at Veda’s hums with a mix of anticipation and meticulous strategy. Owner’s Rhonda & Kim have a knack for reading trends like tea leaves, as they review their spreadsheets of past sales.

Valentine’s isn’t a day; it’s a season,” they agree. “If the 14th falls midweek, we’re juggling pre-orders for office deliveries, romantic dinners, and last-minute dashes. Every year teaches us something new. We embrace challenges like that quite often.”

Nestled on the charming historic square of Murfreesboro, TN, our shop might be small in size, but during this annual celebration of love, it transforms into the heartbeat of the community, pulsing with the energy, anticipation, and determination of a team ready to make magic happen.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, affectionately called “the little flower shop on the square” by locals, Valentine’s Day isn’t just a holiday—it’s actually a full-blown floral marathon.

The Calm Before the (Floral) Storm

For many businesses, Valentine’s Day is just one day, but for florists, it’s more like a three-day, adrenaline-fueled festival of petals, ribbons, and romantic sentiments. This year was no different, and as always, it all began weeks in advance.

Every year, our Valentine’s Day prep starts with careful review of sales data from prior years, mixed with a little gut instinct and a sprinkle of community insight. How many dozen red roses were sold last year? Were customers leaning more toward classic rose arrangements or branching out into colorful mixed bouquets and modern designs? What worked, what could improve, and what trends are popping up in the floral world?

We know one thing for sure—proper planning is our love language.

When the Unexpected Happens…

This year, however, the flower gods decided to test us. One of our earliest floral shipments—containing a significant portion of our premium blooms—somehow found its way to a completely different city. Imagine the collective gasp in our shop when the tracking notifications lit up our phones like warning flares. Our “Plan A” had seemingly gone rogue! We almost had to go “Plan B’ to save the day!

But that’s the thing about seasoned florists: we don’t just have a Plan A. We have a Plan B and a solid Plan C ready to roll. After a few nail-biting hours, countless phone calls, and a little logistical magic, the misplaced shipment arrived just in time. Our coolers were soon bursting at the seams with fresh roses, tulips, lilies, and hydrangeas. Valentine’s Day was back on track—and so were we.

The Dream Team: Designers, Drivers, and the Coffee Brigade

Once the flowers are secured, it’s time for our Valentine’s Day battalion to assemble. The week of February 14th, Veda’s is buzzing from sunrise to well after sunset. Extra floral designers step behind the workbenches, armed with floral tape and clippers, ready to turn stems and blooms into handcrafted works of art. Front desk pros field nonstop phone calls and greet a steady stream of walk-in customers, each one looking for the perfect arrangement to say “I love you.”

And the delivery drivers? They’re the unsung heroes, darting through town like floral cupids on wheels, delivering joy straight to doorsteps, offices, and classrooms. Each knock on the door and surprise delivery brings wide-eyed grins, happy tears, and warm embraces. As one of our veteran drivers puts it, “We live for those moments. The look on someone’s face when they get flowers on Valentine’s Day—it’s priceless.”

More Than Roses: The Art of Variety

Sure, red roses take center stage this time of year, but don’t be fooled—our customers love options. From bright and cheery Gerbera daisies to romantic pink peonies and rustic-chic wildflower mixes, we keep our coolers stocked with a variety of blooms. Some opt for elegant, pastel-toned arrangements while others go bold with vibrant colors and unique textures. This variety allows our designers to flex their creative muscles, crafting everything from modern minimalist bouquets to lush garden-style arrangements.

It’s not uncommon for a customer to walk in with a twinkle in their eye, looking for “something different this year,” and we love nothing more than rising to the occasion.

The Plan Behind the Romance

The secret behind a successful Valentine’s Day at Veda’s is simple: details, details, details.

Every aspect is mapped out. From the moment we unlock the door on February 14th (or sometimes even earlier depending on pre-orders) to the final delivery of the day, everything is choreographed like a symphony.

 • Inventory: Double-checked and then checked again.
 • Staff schedules: Strategically crafted to ensure peak coverage.
 • Delivery routes: Optimized for maximum efficiency.
 • Pre-orders: Organized and staged for seamless pickups and deliveries.

We even plan out meals for the team. You can’t run on love alone, after all! Early mornings start with hot coffee and trays of fresh doughnuts. By lunchtime, the back room fills with the mouthwatering aroma of crockpots simmering with homemade chili, complete with all the fixin’s—shredded cheese, diced onions, sour cream, and oyster crackers. These little moments of camaraderie and nourishment keep us fueled for the long, bustling day ahead.

The Excitement Builds…

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the buzz in the shop becomes electric. There’s laughter, the occasional “how are we doing on ribbon inventory?” shouted from the design bench, and the unmistakable scent of fresh-cut flowers filling the air.

Customers pop in, some with weeks of planning behind them, others hoping to make a last-minute love-fueled decision. Each order holds a story: the young man picking up a first-date bouquet, the spouse of 30 years who never misses a year, the parent surprising a child at school. These personal touches and stories of love, friendship, and affection fuel us just as much as caffeine and chili.

Delivery Day: Love on the Move

By the time the big day hits, the team is laser-focused. The delivery SUV’s and vans are loaded, orders are triple-checked, and the delivery crew fans out across Murfreesboro like petals on the wind.

There’s something about delivering flowers on Valentine’s Day that feels like being part of a grand secret. You’re the first to witness that instant transformation—eyes lighting up, hands flying to cover surprised smiles, heartfelt thank-yous, and happy tears. For a florist, there’s no better reward.

And while the adrenaline is high and the pace relentless, there’s also a warmth and pride that comes from knowing we’re playing a role in hundreds of personal love stories.

More Than a Business—It’s a Tradition

For Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, Valentine’s Day is about more than just sales and bouquets. It’s about tradition. Many families in Murfreesboro have relied on “the little flower shop on the square” for decades, entrusting us with their most meaningful expressions of love.

It’s about community, too. Our customers are our neighbors, friends, and fellow small business owners. We’re here to help them say “I love you,” “I’m thinking of you,” or “You mean the world to me” in the most timeless way possible—through flowers.

After the Petals Settle…

Once the last bouquet is delivered and the shop begins to quiet down, there’s a collective sigh of satisfaction. We did it. Another successful Valentine’s Day in the books. The team gathers one last time—tired but fulfilled, surrounded by empty flower buckets and stray ribbons—and shares a toast to teamwork, resilience, and a job well done.

We know next year will bring its own surprises and challenges. But that’s part of the charm. That’s part of what makes Veda’s not just a flower shop, but a part of Murfreesboro’s heartbeat.

So, as we clean up and prepare for the next big event, we’re already jotting down notes, tweaking plans, and dreaming of how to make next Valentine’s Day even more magical.

Because here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, when it comes to love, we’re always ready to go the extra mile—or city—if needed.

Keeping the Local Economy Running Great

Imagine strolling through the historic Murfreesboro public square. The sun catches the brick facades, the air buzzes with friendly chatter, and the scent of fresh blooms drifts from Veda’s Flowers & Gifts known by locals as The Little Flower Shop on the Square.

This isn’t just a picturesque scene; it’s a snapshot of a thriving local economy, powered by you. This isn’t just about buying a bouquet; it’s about investing in your community. It’s about keeping the heart of Murfreesboro beating strong with your heart filled patronage.

Why is supporting local businesses so crucial? Let’s delve into the historical and psychological reasons, exploring how your choices shape the very fabric of our town.

A Walk Through Time: The Roots of Local Commerce

Think back to Murfreesboro’s early days. Before sprawling malls and online giants, the town square was the epicenter of commerce. Local merchants, often families like ours at The Little Flower Shop, were the backbone of the community. They knew their customers by name, understood their needs, and were invested in the town’s well-being.

This personal connection fostered trust and a sense of shared prosperity. This tradition is not unique to Murfreesboro. Throughout history, small businesses have been the lifeblood of communities worldwide. They provided essential goods and services, created jobs, and fostered a sense of belonging. They weren’t just businesses; they were integral parts of the social fabric.

The Psychology of Connection: Why Local Matters

There’s a deep psychological connection to shopping local. When you buy from a small business, you’re not just making a transaction; you’re building a relationship. You’re supporting a dream, a family’s livelihood, and the unique character of your town. This creates a sense of community pride and fosters a feeling of belonging.

Studies have shown that people who shop locally tend to feel more connected to their community. They experience a greater sense of satisfaction knowing their purchases are directly impacting their neighbors and contributing to the overall well-being of their town. It’s a tangible way to invest in something bigger than yourself.

The Engine of the Local Economy: Numbers Don’t Lie

Local businesses are the engine that drives a healthy local economy. When you spend your money locally, a significantly larger portion of that money stays within the community. This creates a ripple effect, benefiting other local businesses, creating jobs, and boosting local tax revenue, which funds essential services like schools and infrastructure.

While precise figures specifically tracking the impact of “shop local” campaigns in Murfreesboro are limited, we can see the positive effects in other key indicators.

Between 2021 and 2022, Murfreesboro experienced a 3.03% population growth, rising from 148,970 to 153,487. This growth was accompanied by an increase in median household income, from $66,984 to $70,000. This economic growth is intertwined with the health of our local businesses. Furthermore, the arts and culture sector in Rutherford County, which includes Murfreesboro, generates approximately $31.2 million annually and supports over 1,000 full-time equivalent jobs.

Many of these cultural hubs are small, locally owned businesses that contribute significantly to the vibrancy of our community. Organizations like LOCAL Murfreesboro actively promote and support local businesses, highlighting their importance to our city’s economic vitality. Their efforts underscore the collective impact of choosing to shop local.

The Murfreesboro Story: Examples of Local Impact

Think of the family-owned restaurants that have been serving Murfreesboro for generations, the local bookstores that foster a love of reading, or the independent boutiques that offer unique finds. These businesses are not just places to shop; they’re part of Murfreesboro’s identity. They contribute to the unique charm and character that makes our town so special.

The Little Flower Shop on the Square is part of this story. We’re not just selling flowers; we’re creating memories, celebrating milestones, and adding beauty to everyday life. We’re part of the fabric of this community, and we’re committed to its continued success.

What is the Keystone Project All About?

Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is on the brink of a significant transformation with the introduction of Project Keystone, a $175 million capital investment aimed at revitalizing the downtown area.

Spearheaded by Brentwood-based developer HRP Residential, the project encompasses a seven-acre tract along Broad Street, stretching from Church Street to Vine Street.

The development plans include approximately 100 condominiums, 239 apartments, 40,000 square feet of retail space, and a boutique hotel featuring up to 150 rooms.

To address potential parking challenges, the proposal includes the addition of 715 parking spaces distributed across three parking garages and ground-level parking.

Infrastructure improvements such as additional turn lanes and pedestrian crossings are also planned to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The project has elicited mixed reactions from the community. Some residents are optimistic about the economic boost and increased business opportunities it could bring to downtown merchants. However, concerns have been raised regarding the high proportion of apartments compared to condominiums, with apprehensions about potential long-term maintenance and aesthetic issues.

Councilmember Shawn Wright, the sole dissenting vote on the city council, expressed his preference for more condominiums and fewer apartments, citing worries about the future appearance and upkeep of the apartment units.

As of August 2024, the project faced financing challenges, particularly concerning the boutique hotel component, due to rising interest rates.

City officials have been working to restructure the project’s phases to better manage financing and aim to commence construction by October or November 2024.

Project Keystone represents a pivotal moment for Murfreesboro, with the potential to reshape the city’s landscape and economy.

As the city balances growth with community concerns, the outcome of this development will significantly influence Murfreesboro’s future trajectory.
