Just About Ready to Debut – The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog

Well, hello there! If you’ve found your way to this page, you’ve officially discovered “The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog,” and we’re so glad you did. We’ve been dreaming of launching this little storytelling corner for quite a while now.

Originally, we thought it would bloom sometime before Valentine’s Day (a natural time for a florist, right?). But as life would have it, things got a little… busy. Between wrapping bouquets in pink ribbon, prepping Valentine’s specials, and tending to our ever-growing list of meaningful projects, our blog had to wait patiently in the wings.

That said, sometimes delays lead to better timing, and here we are—just about ready to debut. We’re thinking it will be ready for its official launch debut sometime towards mid- July 2025.

We hope this blog becomes more than just a place to share news and updates. We want it to be a window into our world, filled with stories from the shop, everyday moments, real-life happenings, creative sparks, and the little lessons that come from working in a small, soulful business like ours.

So, let’s pull back the curtain and share what’s been happening behind the petals…

Real Life, Real Flowers, Real Joy

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe in blooming where you’re planted. For us, that’s right here in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic downtown public square.

We’re proud to be a women-owned, family-operated business that blossomed from love, perseverance, and a whole lot of heart. We like to say that we’re more than a flower and gift shop—we’re a little slice of home. A place where faith and community come together. Where you’ll hear laughter in the back room, smell fresh blooms from the front door, and see hands working tirelessly to craft something beautiful—one bouquet at a time.

But flowers, like life, are never just one thing. They’re part joy, part challenge, part surprise. And that’s exactly the kind of mix we want to bring to this blog.

We’ll be writing about:

The day-to-day magic (and chaos!) of running a flower shop. The behind-the-scenes of our busiest seasons. Stories from customers and community events that make us smile. Reflections on faith, family, and finding beauty in the ordinary. Plus, floral tips, gift ideas, seasonal favorites, and so much more. It won’t always be perfectly polished, but it will always be authentic—just like everything we do.

The Swag Shop is Blooming, Too

Now let’s talk about one of the projects that pushed this blog slightly down the to-do list: The Swag Shop!

Yes, that’s right—Veda’s Swag Shop: The Merch Marketplace of the Little Flower Shop on the Square is officially coming to life. Developing this line of merchandise has been a labor of love. We didn’t want to just slap our name on a mug and call it a day although, let’s be honest—who doesn’t love a cute coffee mug with flowers or a small business logon it?

We wanted to create inspiring, meaningful, and community-driven products that reflect who we are and what we believe in. Every item we design carries a little piece of our story—whether it’s about Murfreesboro pride, floral charm, or that everyday encouragement we all need from time to time.

Here’s what you can expect to find:

  • Shop Local” themed gear – Because supporting your hometown matters
  • Floral-inspired apparel and gifts – Perfect for plant lovers and flower fanatics
  • Seasonal designs – Think springtime shirts, Christmas cozies, fall-themed totes, and more
  • Uplifting messages and meaningful quotes – From shirts to stickers to journals

We’re still in the testing phase of our payment processors (tech is a whole different kind of flower arranging!), but everything is looking great, and we’re adding new items weekly.

Keep checking back by clicking that “SWAG SHOP” button on our upper navigation bar to see what’s fresh off the design table.

Why We Do What We Do

We’ve always believed that flowers can do more than brighten a room—they brighten lives. Every bouquet we send out is part of someone’s story:

  • A first date turned forever.
  • A memorial for a beloved mother.
  • A “just because” arrangement that brought unexpected joy.
  • A tiny bud vase given to a teacher who made a difference.

These aren’t just transactions—they’re moments, and they matter. So, when we say we’re passionate about what we do, we mean it.

Our blog is simply one more way to celebrate those moments with you. To show the heart behind the counter. To lift the veil on the “why” behind every petal.

A Community That Nurtures Us

We’d be nowhere without the Murfreesboro community that surrounds and supports us. Being a part of the downtown public square means being part of something historic, intimate, and wonderfully alive.

We love watching families stroll by, seeing locals gather for events, and hearing the same friendly voices return week after week. And we’re proud to be part of the “shop local” movement that keeps this area thriving.

Every purchase at Veda’s—whether it’s a flower arrangement, a handmade gift, or a piece of swag from our shop—fuels not just our family business, but a network of others who believe in putting heart into their craft. When you shop with us, you support:

  • Moms and daughters working side by side
  • Local artisans and small-batch makers
  • Downtown vitality and entrepreneurial dreams

It’s powerful stuff, and we’re endlessly grateful to be a part of it.

What’s Coming Next

So what’s next on the horizon, maybe already thinking ahead into the 2026 season? Besides launching this blog (?) this year and expanding our Swag Shop, we’re gearing up for:

  • Seasonal floral specials
  •  Maybe a new DIY flower bar events
  •  Maybe Workshops (think: wreath making, bouquet arranging, or holiday décor classes!)
  •  More community collaborations and pop-up markets
  •  And yes, more blog posts like this one!

If you’re reading this, we’d love to have you along for the ride. Bookmark this blog, follow us on social media, or stop by the shop and say hello. You’re part of our story now—and we’re so glad you are.

In Closing: The Joy is in the Journey

Starting a blog later than expected isn’t a failure—it’s real life. And just like a flower, sometimes things take a little longer to bloom. But when they do? The joy is worth the wait.

Thank you for being here, for cheering us on, and for believing in small-town charm, community values, and the kind of business where love is wrapped in every delivery.

We can’t wait to share this new chapter with you. With all our petals and all our heart, Yours truly, Veda’s Flowers & Gifts Family

P.S. Got a blog topic you’d love us to write about? A local event you think we should highlight? A funny flower shop story you want to hear? Drop us a line—this blog is for you, after all.

A Mother’s Love in Full Bloom: Celebrating Mother’s Day with Flowers & Heart at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

There are few occasions as universally meaningful—and deeply personal—as Mother’s Day. It’s a day devoted to honoring the women who gave us life, shaped our values, and continue to fill our hearts with unconditional love.

From early morning hugs and homemade cards to elegant brunches and surprise visits, Mother’s Day is about one powerful thing: gratitude. And what better way to express that gratitude than through the timeless language of flowers? At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, nestled in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic downtown square, we believe that every mother deserves a bouquet as beautiful and unique as she is.

As a women-owned business built from love, legacy, and the spirit of family, we know firsthand how meaningful it is to celebrate moms, grandmas, aunts, and the maternal figures who light up our lives. Let’s explore the history of Mother’s Day, the tradition of giving flowers, and how our flower shop—affectionately known as “the little flower shop on the square”—can help you craft a perfect tribute this Mother’s Day.

A Brief History of Mother’s Day: From Ancient Roots to Modern Tradition

While Mother’s Day as we know it began in the United States, its roots go back thousands of years.

  • Ancient Greeks and Romans held festivals in honor of mother goddesses like Rhea and Cybele.
  • In the 1600s, “Mothering Sunday” became a tradition in England, when servants would return home to visit their mothers, often bringing small gifts or flowers.
  •
  • The modern Mother’s Day was championed by Anna Jarvis in the early 20th century. After the passing of her own mother, Jarvis wanted to create a national holiday to honor the sacrifices mothers make for their children. In 1914, President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaimed the second Sunday in May as Mother’s Day in the United States.
  •

From heartfelt beginnings to a cherished national holiday, Mother’s Day has always centered around appreciation, family, and acts of love—often expressed through flowers.

Flowers for Mother’s Day: A Tradition That Speaks from the Heart

There’s a reason flowers remain the number one gift on Mother’s Day. They speak a language of emotion, tenderness, and beauty that transcends words.

Each bloom carries its own meaning, allowing people to personalize their messages in the most elegant way possible. Here are a few of the most popular—and symbolic—flowers for Mother’s Day:

* Carnations

Often considered the “official flower” of Mother’s Day, carnations were Anna Jarvis’s personal favorite. She chose white carnations to honor mothers who had passed and pink carnations to celebrate those still living. Today, pink remains one of the most beloved hues for Mother’s Day arrangements.

* Tulips

Available in a rainbow of colors, tulips are bright, cheerful, and symbolize perfect love—making them ideal for expressing heartfelt emotions on Mother’s Day.

* Roses

Long associated with romance, roses also symbolize gratitude, admiration, and appreciation—especially in lighter shades like soft pink or creamy white.

* Lilies

Elegant and fragrant, lilies symbolize motherhood and purity. They create a stunning focal point in any floral arrangement.

* Peonies, Hydrangeas, and Daisies

These lush blooms are full of softness and sentimentality. Peonies evoke compassion, hydrangeas convey heartfelt emotion, and daisies represent innocence and joy.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we thoughtfully design each bouquet to match your vision and your mom’s unique personality. Whether she prefers classic elegance or bold, artistic blooms, we’ll help you create something truly special.

May Day Magic: Dancing into Spring with Flowers, Joy, and Veda’s on the Square

The arrival of May isn’t just another page on the calendar—it’s a celebration of color, warmth, and nature’s grand return. For centuries, May Day, observed on May 1st, has symbolized the full arrival of spring. It’s a day rooted in tradition, wrapped in ribbons, and—most importantly—bursting with beautiful hand selected flowers.

In communities big and small, it’s a time to pause, celebrate, and share the simple joy of the season. Here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we embrace the magic of May Day with open arms and blossoming bouquets.

The Roots of May Day: From Ancient Rituals to Ribbon Dances

May Day has origins that stretch back thousands of years, with its earliest roots in ancient pagan festivals celebrating fertility, renewal, and the planting season. The Celts marked the date as Beltane, lighting bonfires and holding community rituals to ensure healthy crops and good fortune.

As the centuries unfolded, May Day became a fixture across Europe. Its most iconic symbol—the Maypole—dates back to medieval times. On May 1st, villages would gather in the town square, hoisting tall wooden poles adorned with greenery and colorful ribbons. Children and adults alike would dance around the Maypole, weaving the ribbons into dazzling patterns while music filled the air. It was the ultimate spring spectacle.

Today, the Maypole remains a fun and whimsical tradition, especially in schoolyards, cultural festivals, and springtime fairs. But even more than the dancing, what truly sets May Day apart is its close relationship with flowers.

The Language of May Day: Bouquets of Joy

May Day is known the world over as a flower-filled festival. In Victorian times, it was common to anonymously leave a “May Basket” on someone’s doorstep—a small arrangement of fresh flowers and sweet treats as a token of affection or friendship. Ring the bell and run—May Day surprise!

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we adore the sentiment behind this old-fashioned tradition. What better way to brighten someone’s day than with a handcrafted bouquet left in their honor? Whether it’s a dainty posy tied with silk ribbon or a festive floral cone tucked into a door handle, the gesture is heartfelt, fun, and undeniably beautiful.

And the best part? There’s no wrong flower for May Day. But here are a few favorites that capture the spirit of spring and the joy of the season:

  • Lilacs – Symbolizing first love and spring’s arrival.
  • Lily of the Valley – Delicate and fragrant, representing happiness and humility.
  • Peonies – Full of lush petals and romance, perfect for making a statement.
  • Daisies – Simple, cheerful, and ideal for a classic May Basket.
  • Ranunculus and Anemones – Vibrant and unique, for something bold and fun.

Whether you’re gifting to a teacher, a neighbor, or someone you love, flowers on May Day are a sweet reminder that spring is made to be shared.

Schools, Springtime, and the Spirit of Celebration

In many communities—especially here in Murfreesboro—schools still celebrate May Day with style. Some elementary schools host Maypole dances, where children perform in pastel costumes and weave ribbons to the beat of cheerful music. Others create classroom art projects, make flower crowns, or send home mini bouquets as part of spring celebrations.

These moments may seem small, but they’re powerful. They teach kids the value of tradition, the beauty of nature, and the joy of giving. And as a local florist, nothing delights us more than helping families and educators add a little floral flair to these events.

At Veda’s, we offer customizable mini arrangements, classroom-friendly bundles, and themed floral gifts that bring May Day magic to life for kids and adults alike.

Murfreesboro in May: Where the Square Comes Alive

May is one of the prettiest months to stroll Murfreesboro’s historic downtown public square. The air is fresh, patios are open, and the flowers—oh, the flowers!—are in full bloom.

As the trees begin to leaf out and the sidewalks fill with laughter and sunshine, our little flower shop on the square becomes a go-to stop for anyone looking to bring spring indoors.

Locals stop in to pick up blooms for teachers, friends, and even themselves. After all, flowers aren’t just for holidays—they’re for any moment that deserves a little more beauty.

Restaurants on the square bustle with activity, and weekend markets showcase local artisans, farmers, and yes—florists. There’s something incredibly special about being part of a community that not only appreciates flowers but sees them as part of its cultural heartbeat.

Keeping Tradition Alive, One Bloom at a Time

May Day may not be a national holiday, but for those who celebrate it—whether through dancing around a pole or dropping off a floral surprise—it remains one of the most delightful days of the year. It’s a reminder to embrace beauty, cherish community, and celebrate the season in all its blooming glory.

And here in Murfreesboro, that spirit is alive and well—especially at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, where flowers are more than decoration. They’re expressions of love, friendship, and the ties that hold us together.
