The Art of the Everyday Bouquet – How to turn simple flowers into a daily mood booster

There’s something magical about flowers. A handful of daisies on the kitchen table. A single rose on the nightstand. A vase of wildflowers catching the morning sun on a Murfreesboro porch.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we see firsthand how even the simplest bouquet can change the way someone feels. Fresh flowers don’t just decorate a space—they transform it. They have the power to lift moods, spark creativity, and bring a sense of calm into even the busiest days.

This is the art of the everyday bouquet: using fresh blooms to infuse joy, beauty, and mindfulness into the moments that matter most. And the best part? You don’t need a special occasion to enjoy them.

Why Flowers Make Us Happier 🌸

It’s not just your imagination—flowers are scientifically proven to boost happiness. Studies show that fresh blooms can:

  • Elevate your mood by releasing feel-good chemicals like dopamine and serotonin

  • Reduce stress by lowering cortisol levels

  • Increase creativity and focus, making them perfect for workspaces

  • Strengthen connections when shared as a simple gesture of care

For us at Veda’s, this research confirms what we’ve always known: flowers are powerful mood boosters. Whether it’s a petite arrangement on a desk or a lush bouquet in the living room, fresh blooms brighten both spaces and spirits.

The Everyday Bouquet: Simple, Beautiful, Transformative

Many people think of flowers as something reserved for birthdays, anniversaries, or big events. But at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe flowers should be part of everyday life.

An everyday bouquet isn’t about extravagance—it’s about small, meaningful beauty. It can very well be something as simple as:

  • A petite vase on the kitchen counter

  • A jar of wildflowers by the bedside

  • A cluster of cheerful blooms on a home office desk

  • A thoughtful arrangement in a child’s playroom

These small touches create a sense of mindfulness and joy in daily routines. And best of all, they don’t need to break the bank.

Tips to Make Your Everyday Bouquet Last Longer

Tennessee summers can be hot, and flowers need a little extra care to stay fresh and vibrant. Here are Veda’s florist-approved tips to keep your blooms thriving:

1. Choose Fresh, Seasonal Blooms

Seasonal flowers are naturally hardier and last longer. In the summer, we love working with:

  • Sunflowers – Bold, bright, and long-lasting

  • Zinnias – Vibrant and cheerful

  • Alstroemerias – Hardy, affordable, and versatile

  • Wildflowers – Locally sourced and eco-friendly

2. Refresh the Water Daily 💧

Warm Tennessee air accelerates bacterial growth in vase water. Change it every day to keep stems hydrated and healthy.

3. Trim & Feed Your Flowers ✂️

  • Cut stems at a 45-degree angle every few days to encourage water uptake. Use the flower food we include with every Veda’s bouquet—it nourishes blooms and extends vase life.

4. Keep Them Cool, Not Cold ❄️

Flowers love a cool spot, away from direct sunlight, vents, and appliances. A shaded table or shelf is ideal for prolonging freshness.

5. Embrace the Art of Rearranging 🎨

As individual blooms fade, don’t toss the whole bouquet! Remove spent flowers and reimagine what remains into smaller vases or bud jars. It’s like giving your flowers a second life.

Creating a Mood with Flowers

Each flower carries its own personality and symbolism. By thoughtfully choosing blooms, you can set the tone for your day—or your space.

At Veda’s, we help you customize bouquets based on the mood you want to create—perfect for home styling, office inspiration, or daily pick-me-ups.

Bouquets Beyond the Home 🌿

An everyday bouquet isn’t just for your living room. Flowers can elevate your entire lifestyle:

  • Workspaces: A small arrangement on your desk can boost focus and creativity.

  • Entryways: A welcoming vase by the door sets a positive tone the moment you step inside.

  • Front Porches: For Southerners, porch florals are a hospitality staple—we can design porch-ready arrangements that thrive in Tennessee’s summer heat.

  • Teacher Gifts: A petite bouquet can make a thoughtful start-of-year gesture.

  • Self-Care Rituals: Fresh blooms in your bathroom or reading nook encourage slow, intentional living.

The Joy of Gifting Everyday Bouquets 🎁

Flowers aren’t just for your own enjoyment—they’re a beautiful way to connect with others. An unexpected bouquet says:

  • “I’m thinking of you.”

  • “You matter to me.”

  • “I’m grateful for you.”

Consider gifting everyday bouquets for:

  • Friends going through stressful seasons

  • Coworkers celebrating small wins

  • Family members who could use a smile

  • Your own pick-me-up moments—because you deserve flowers, too

Mindfulness Through Flowers 🌿🕊️

We live in a fast-paced world, but fresh flowers invite us to pause and savor. Taking a few moments each day to rearrange stems, refresh water, or simply admire their beauty cultivates mindfulness.

Here at Veda’s, we see bouquets as a reminder to:

  • Slow down

  • Appreciate fleeting beauty

  • Celebrate simple joys

  • Elevate your space

  • Spread joy to others

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we’re passionate about helping you discover the art of everyday florals. From petite bouquets and porch arrangements to custom subscriptions, we make it easy to bring beauty into your daily life.

Just Because — Why Summer Flowers Matter Most

In a world where we often wait for birthdays, anniversaries, or holidays to express love and appreciation, there’s something beautifully refreshing about giving flowers “just because.”

And as July blazes on with bold sunshine and long, lazy days, there’s no better time to embrace that spontaneous gesture.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, located on the historic Murfreesboro Public Square, we believe that summer isn’t just a season — it’s a state of heart.

It’s when bright colors burst forth, laughter lingers longer, and small moments take on new meaning. And that’s why summer flowers matter most.

The Power of “Just Because”

Giving flowers without an occasion is a quiet act of rebellion in a fast-paced, task-oriented world. It says:

  • I was thinking of you.”
  • You matter to me.”
  • Here’s a little joy, just because.”

These simple gifts often land the loudest. Why? Because they’re unexpected. No calendar reminder or social obligation prompted them — only heart.

And during summer, when life slows just enough for reflection, these spontaneous gestures feel especially meaningful.

☀️Why Summer is the Perfect Time for Surprise Flowers

We’re often asked, “Do people really buy flowers in the heat of July?” The answer is a bright and blooming yes. And here’s why:

1. Color Cravings Run High

Summer ignites our senses. We crave the bold hues of sunsets, citrus fruits, fireworks, and blooming fields. Flowers are nature’s palette — and right now, it’s set to vivid. Whether it’s hot pink roses or orange lilies, July flowers satisfy our need for brightness and beauty.

2. A Mood Boost, Naturally

Studies have shown that flowers can lift your mood, reduce stress, and even increase feelings of connection. During the lull between spring celebrations and the buzz of back-to-school, a spontaneous floral delivery can be just the pick-me-up someone needs.

3. Summer Is Made for Slowing Down

Without the frenzied energy of holidays or major milestones, summer invites us to be present. And what better way to celebrate the present moment than with something as ephemeral and lovely as fresh blooms?

4. Self-Love Blooms Too

More and more of our customers are sending flowers to themselves. A fresh arrangement on your dining table, desk, or nightstand brings daily joy. It’s a small act of self-kindness with a big impact.

5. Moments That Deserve Color

Summer hosts its own quiet milestones—like finishing a big project, finally taking that beach day, or simply making it through a tough week. These moments may not call for cake, but they absolutely deserve flowers.

What’s Blooming in July at Veda’s?

At Veda’s, we specialize in crafting bold, beautiful arrangements using the brightest seasonal blooms. Our July favorites are chosen not just for their beauty, but for how they feel — warm, vivid, expressive, and full of heart.

This Month’s Standout Flowers:

  • Sunflowers – Joyful and strong, like a Southern summer.
  • Hot Pink Roses – Romantic with a punch of playfulness.
  • Orange Lilies – Fiery, fragrant, and full of personality.
  • Gerbera Daisies – Cheery and colorful like confetti.
  • Green Hydrangeas – Cool, voluminous, and grounding.
  • Alstroemeria – Intricate and long-lasting; perfect for texture.
  • Carnations in Citrus Hues – Underrated and ultra-resilient.

Each bloom is selected for its quality and color impact. And our designers love mixing these varieties into personalized “Just Because” arrangements — some wild and garden-like, others classic with a summer twist.

Bold & Lush or Classic with a Pop?

Whether you’re sending flowers or treating yourself, your floral style matters. At Veda’s, every bouquet is handcrafted with your personality in mind. Two popular summer styles include:

Bold & Lush

Love color? Love drama? This is your lane. We’re talking tall stems, vibrant hues, and eye-catching textures.

Perfect for artists, extroverts, and anyone who wants to make a statement.

Blooms to look for: Sunflowers, lilies, roses, gerbera daisies, wild greenery.

Classic with a Pop

This style whispers elegance but still wants a little surprise. Maybe it’s a soft white base with a single hot pink accent, or a neutral arrangement wrapped in a patterned ribbon. Timeless with a twist.

Blooms to look for: White hydrangeas, cream roses, delicate greenery, a bright focal bloom.

Can’t decide? Let us design a custom arrangement for you based on color preference, mood, and style. Just visit vedasflowers.com and leave us a note!

Love in Bloom – Even in July

Weddings may peak in spring and fall, but summer brides hold a special kind of magic. At Veda’s, we design wedding bouquets and event florals that match not just the season, but your personality and vision.

From tropical garden-style bouquets to elegant Southern charm, our summer bridal designs are bursting with:

  • Bright seasonal blooms
  • Lush textures and greenery
  • Custom color palettes that pop in sunlight and photos

We love working with couples to create something meaningful, bold, and completely you.

Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

Historic Murfreesboro Public Square ❤️

Bold. Local. Always in Bloom.

Stars, Stripes & Sweet Family Time: A Fourth of July Message from Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

As fireworks light up the Tennessee sky and flags flutter along the streets of historic downtown Murfreesboro, we at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts pause each year for a cherished tradition of our own—closing our little shop on the square for some extended days in early July for the enjoyment of family, reflection, and freedom.

Yes, you heard it right! While others may be picking up last-minute supplies or running errands, we’re soaking in precious time with loved ones, we’re on the beach, or by the pool, maybe on a cruise or just chasing fireflies with the kids, grilling in the backyard, and giving thanks for the incredible gift of independence… and of course, for you—our community.

This July 4th, we wanted to take a moment to share a little behind-the-scenes sparkle with you and let you know why this time of year is so meaningful to us, even when our doors are temporarily closed.

Why We Close for the Fourth (And Why We Hope You’ll Celebrate Too!)

At Veda’s, family isn’t just a priority—it’s the heartbeat of our business. Since opening our doors eight years ago in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic public square, we’ve built more than a flower shop. We’ve built a legacy of faith, perseverance, community, and love.

And the Fourth of July? It’s our chance to take a deep breath and take some much-needed vacation time whether we jet off to another part of the world or just stay local in staycation mode.

Like others that typically schedule their summer vacations in early July, we do the same and press pause and celebrate those very same values with the people who matter to us most.

It’s a time when our team trades flower stems for sparklers, floral deliveries for backyard barbecues, and customer calls for kids’ laughter echoing across porches.

We believe in working hard—but we also believe in rest, renewal, and the joy of unplugging for a bit. Just like fresh flowers need time to bloom, so do we.

Red, White & YOU: Supporting Small, Supporting Local

Independence Day is all about honoring our nation’s story—its fight for freedom, its resilient spirit, and its people. And here in Murfreesboro, there’s no better way to celebrate that spirit than by supporting local businesses.

Every time you choose to shop at Veda’s—whether it’s a birthday bouquet, a sweet “thinking of you” gesture, or a holiday centerpiece—you’re not just supporting us. You’re fueling an entire local ecosystem of dreamers, doers, and small-town go-getters.

From local candle makers and artisans, to delivery drivers and downtown event organizers, your support creates a ripple effect that lifts all of us. It’s the very definition of community—and it’s one of the things we’re most grateful for every single day.

So, from the bottom of our red, white, and blue hearts: thank you. Thank you for believing in the power of small businesses, and thank you for being part of our story.

Our Favorite Ways to Celebrate the Fourth in Murfreesboro 🇺🇸

Even though Veda’s is closed over the holiday, you can bet we’re still soaking in the local fun! Here are a few of our favorite Fourth of July traditions in and around Murfreesboro:

  • Celebration Under the Stars at the Fountains at Gateway – Live music, food trucks, and one of the best fireworks shows around. Pure Murfreesboro magic.

  • Backyard BBQs with local meats and fresh corn from the Rutherford County Farmers Market.

  • Old Glory Runs – Nothing says freedom like a morning jog or walk through our beautiful neighborhoods, flags waving proudly.

  • Porch Time with Lemonade and Laughter – Sometimes, the best memories are the simplest ones: a rocking chair, some ice-cold sweet tea, and your favorite people nearby.

We encourage you to take a break, unplug, and make memories. Whether you’re hitting the lake, manning the grill, or just watching the fireworks light up your kids’ faces—those are the moments that make life beautiful.

Flower Power and Patriotism

While we’re enjoying our brief holiday pause, don’t worry—we’ll be right back after the festivities, fully recharged and ready to fill your lives with beauty again.

And if you’re planning ahead, flowers are a perfect way to keep the celebration going! Whether you’re hosting a belated get-together or sending love to someone who couldn’t join the family fun, our patriotic arrangements and summer-inspired bouquets will be waiting when we reopen.

Nothing says “I’m thinking of you” like a burst of sunflowers, a vase full of red roses and white lilies, or a fresh arrangement that brings the warmth of summer indoors.

A Toast to Freedom, Family, and the Future

As we mark another Independence Day—and another year of serving this incredible community—we’re reminded that our greatest blessings aren’t just the flowers that bloom in our shop, but the people who walk through our door, share their stories, and trust us to be part of their special moments.

We may be a small business, but our hearts are full. This July 4th, as fireworks illuminate the sky and laughter fills the air, we’re raising a virtual toast:

To freedom.
To family.
To faith and fun.

And to you—our friends, customers, and community—who make it all possible.

When We’re Back

Just a heads-up for our wonderful customers:

Veda’s Flowers & Gifts will be closed from July 4th through July 13th to give our team a much-deserved summer break. We’ll be back to business on Monday, July 14th, refreshed and ready to help you celebrate all of life’s moments.

If you’d like to pre-order for pickup or delivery after the 6th, you can always visit our website:

Final Petal of Wisdom 🌼

As you gather with friends, light those sparklers, and wave those stars and stripes, take a moment to remember the real beauty of this holiday: the chance to slow down, appreciate the blessings around you, and share joy with the ones you love.

That’s what we’ll be doing—and we hope you will too.

From all of us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, Happy Fourth of July, Murfreesboro!

Stay safe, stay proud, and keep blooming. 🌺🇺🇸

Just About Ready to Debut – The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog

Well, hello there! If you’ve found your way to this page, you’ve officially discovered “The Little Flower Shop on the Square Blog,” and we’re so glad you did. We’ve been dreaming of launching this little storytelling corner for quite a while now.

Originally, we thought it would bloom sometime before Valentine’s Day (a natural time for a florist, right?). But as life would have it, things got a little… busy. Between wrapping bouquets in pink ribbon, prepping Valentine’s specials, and tending to our ever-growing list of meaningful projects, our blog had to wait patiently in the wings.

That said, sometimes delays lead to better timing, and here we are—just about ready to debut. We’re thinking it will be ready for its official launch debut sometime towards mid- July 2025.

We hope this blog becomes more than just a place to share news and updates. We want it to be a window into our world, filled with stories from the shop, everyday moments, real-life happenings, creative sparks, and the little lessons that come from working in a small, soulful business like ours.

So, let’s pull back the curtain and share what’s been happening behind the petals…

Real Life, Real Flowers, Real Joy

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe in blooming where you’re planted. For us, that’s right here in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic downtown public square.

We’re proud to be a women-owned, family-operated business that blossomed from love, perseverance, and a whole lot of heart. We like to say that we’re more than a flower and gift shop—we’re a little slice of home. A place where faith and community come together. Where you’ll hear laughter in the back room, smell fresh blooms from the front door, and see hands working tirelessly to craft something beautiful—one bouquet at a time.

But flowers, like life, are never just one thing. They’re part joy, part challenge, part surprise. And that’s exactly the kind of mix we want to bring to this blog.

We’ll be writing about:

The day-to-day magic (and chaos!) of running a flower shop. The behind-the-scenes of our busiest seasons. Stories from customers and community events that make us smile. Reflections on faith, family, and finding beauty in the ordinary. Plus, floral tips, gift ideas, seasonal favorites, and so much more. It won’t always be perfectly polished, but it will always be authentic—just like everything we do.

The Swag Shop is Blooming, Too

Now let’s talk about one of the projects that pushed this blog slightly down the to-do list: The Swag Shop!

Yes, that’s right—Veda’s Swag Shop: The Merch Marketplace of the Little Flower Shop on the Square is officially coming to life. Developing this line of merchandise has been a labor of love. We didn’t want to just slap our name on a mug and call it a day although, let’s be honest—who doesn’t love a cute coffee mug with flowers or a small business logon it?

We wanted to create inspiring, meaningful, and community-driven products that reflect who we are and what we believe in. Every item we design carries a little piece of our story—whether it’s about Murfreesboro pride, floral charm, or that everyday encouragement we all need from time to time.

Here’s what you can expect to find:

  • Shop Local” themed gear – Because supporting your hometown matters
  • Floral-inspired apparel and gifts – Perfect for plant lovers and flower fanatics
  • Seasonal designs – Think springtime shirts, Christmas cozies, fall-themed totes, and more
  • Uplifting messages and meaningful quotes – From shirts to stickers to journals

We’re still in the testing phase of our payment processors (tech is a whole different kind of flower arranging!), but everything is looking great, and we’re adding new items weekly.

Keep checking back by clicking that “SWAG SHOP” button on our upper navigation bar to see what’s fresh off the design table.

Why We Do What We Do

We’ve always believed that flowers can do more than brighten a room—they brighten lives. Every bouquet we send out is part of someone’s story:

  • A first date turned forever.
  • A memorial for a beloved mother.
  • A “just because” arrangement that brought unexpected joy.
  • A tiny bud vase given to a teacher who made a difference.

These aren’t just transactions—they’re moments, and they matter. So, when we say we’re passionate about what we do, we mean it.

Our blog is simply one more way to celebrate those moments with you. To show the heart behind the counter. To lift the veil on the “why” behind every petal.

A Community That Nurtures Us

We’d be nowhere without the Murfreesboro community that surrounds and supports us. Being a part of the downtown public square means being part of something historic, intimate, and wonderfully alive.

We love watching families stroll by, seeing locals gather for events, and hearing the same friendly voices return week after week. And we’re proud to be part of the “shop local” movement that keeps this area thriving.

Every purchase at Veda’s—whether it’s a flower arrangement, a handmade gift, or a piece of swag from our shop—fuels not just our family business, but a network of others who believe in putting heart into their craft. When you shop with us, you support:

  • Moms and daughters working side by side
  • Local artisans and small-batch makers
  • Downtown vitality and entrepreneurial dreams

It’s powerful stuff, and we’re endlessly grateful to be a part of it.

What’s Coming Next

So what’s next on the horizon, maybe already thinking ahead into the 2026 season? Besides launching this blog (?) this year and expanding our Swag Shop, we’re gearing up for:

  • Seasonal floral specials
  • Maybe a new DIY flower bar events
  • Maybe Workshops (think: wreath making, bouquet arranging, or holiday décor classes!)
  • More community collaborations and pop-up markets
  • And yes, more blog posts like this one!

If you’re reading this, we’d love to have you along for the ride. Bookmark this blog, follow us on social media, or stop by the shop and say hello. You’re part of our story now—and we’re so glad you are.

In Closing: The Joy is in the Journey

Starting a blog later than expected isn’t a failure—it’s real life. And just like a flower, sometimes things take a little longer to bloom. But when they do? The joy is worth the wait.

Thank you for being here, for cheering us on, and for believing in small-town charm, community values, and the kind of business where love is wrapped in every delivery.

We can’t wait to share this new chapter with you. With all our petals and all our heart, Yours truly, Veda’s Flowers & Gifts Family

P.S. Got a blog topic you’d love us to write about? A local event you think we should highlight? A funny flower shop story you want to hear? Drop us a line—this blog is for you, after all.

From Green to Gorgeous: How St. Patrick’s Day Inspires Spring at Veda’s

Welcome to the little flower shop on the square, where March isn’t just a month—it’s a season of surprises, celebrations, and color-packed creativity. Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, nestled right on the historic square of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is about to take you on an adventure that proves one thing: when spring rolls in, this shop turns into a botanical playground buzzing with excitement.

The Calm Before the Bloom

You may Think of March as the slow thaw after winter, but step inside Veda’s, and you’ll find a different story unfolding. The days leading up to the First Day of Spring are anything but sleepy. You stroll past the charming brick storefront, hearing the faint hum of activity inside. Swing open the door, and you’re greeted by a swirl of scents—tulips, daffodils, hyacinths—all mingling like the first notes of a favorite song. Veda’s team is already knee-deep in springtime magic.

Welcome to Flower HQ: Where March Means Business

Florists across Middle Tennessee know that March is a powerhouse month. Here, at Veda’s, the crew has their hands full balancing springtime vibes with a touch of shamrock charm. From day one, pastel tulips fly out the door like they’re on a mission. Pink, yellow, and purple tulips are the undisputed stars of the show, signaling to every passerby that spring has arrived. Next, daffodils and narcissus take center stage, beloved for their cheerful faces and ties to both renewal and March birthdays. Their sunny hues are practically begging for a spot on a neighbor’s doorstep or as a kitchen table centerpiece. And then there are hyacinths. Oh, the hyacinths! With their intoxicating fragrance and bold colors, they sneak their way into mixed bouquets and brighten up every delivery van leaving the shop.

A Dash of Luck: St. Patrick’s Day Takes Over

But March isn’t just about florals whispering, “Spring is here!” It’s also about the lucky charm energy of St. Patrick’s Day and yes, we wear our green with pride, and so that we don’t get pinched either! You glance over at the design table and spot a cluster of Bells of Ireland standing tall and proud, their vibrant green spires practically winking at you. Green carnations, dyed to perfection, wait patiently next to buckets of chrysanthemums and playful shamrock plants (Oxalis, if you want to get fancy about it). Veda’s leans all the way in when it comes to March 17th. Extra eucalyptus and ferns pile high on the worktables, ready to give that unmistakable green touch to festive bouquets. Customers? They’re flocking in asking for anything that screams luck and greenery.

The Perfect Storm: Spring Fever Meets Irish Cheer

By mid-March, Veda’s transforms into a kaleidoscope of pastel tones clashing (beautifully) with deep emerald greens. It’s a florist’s dream. Between the First Day of Spring on March 20th and the St. Patrick’s Day rush, nearly every inch of the shop hums with purpose. On any given day, you’ll hear someone at the counter say, “I need something for my mom’s birthday and something lucky for my co-worker’s St. Paddy’s Day gift.” It’s a balancing act, but that’s what makes March at Veda’s so thrilling. Florists deftly weave irises and crocuses into garden-fresh arrangements, while designers at the next table craft lucky-themed bouquets with Bells of Ireland and succulents. The smell of fresh-cut stems, soft pastel ribbons, and the occasional waft of Irish folk music from someone’s playlist make it feel like you’ve stepped into springtime heaven.

More Than Just Flowers

And here’s the thing: Veda’s doesn’t just stop at petals. March brings in festive gifts, too. Think cute shamrock planters, bright green wreaths, and baskets brimming with chocolates, candles, and spring-themed goodies. They’re perfect add-ons for those looking to sprinkle a little extra magic on their gift. Plus, this is Murfreesboro, where Southern charm meets small-town pride. Locals love to add native touches like dogwood branches, giving their bouquets a hometown flair.

Out on the Square: March in Full Swing

Step outside for a moment, and you’ll notice the square itself joins in on the celebration. With spring festivals, St. Patrick’s Day parades, and local markets returning after the winter, foot traffic around Veda’s blooms like one of their bouquets.

Our favorite local postman “Patrick” is even in the spirit of shamrock season by wearing his green as he stops by to make his deliveries. Folks stop in after grabbing coffee next door, parents pop by after a parade with kids in tow, and couples on weekend strolls can’t resist peeking in to see what’s fresh. And trust us, it’s always fresh.

The Power of March Flowers

Here’s a fun secret: nearly 70% of Veda’s March orders lean into spring themes, with bouquets featuring daffodils, tulips, lilies, and wildflowers mixed with fresh greenery and forsythia branches. But don’t sleep on St. Paddy’s Day! About 20-30% of mid-March sales get a dash of clover-inspired fun. It’s all about blending the two vibes—a soft pink tulip bouquet with a splash of Bells of Ireland or a rustic wildflower mix featuring lucky greenery.

Your Invitation to Join the Fun

March at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts is more than bouquets and boutonnieres. It’s about the stories those flowers tell and the people they touch. Whether it’s a neighbor surprising a friend with the first tulips of the season or someone delivering a lucky shamrock plant to their favorite teacher, every petal plays a part into making a great and glorious day.

So, the next time you find yourself wandering through Murfreesboro’s historic square, don’t just pass by the little flower shop on the corner. Step inside and become part of the magic. Because here at Veda’s, spring is calling your name—and trust us, you’ll want to answer.

Love in Full Bloom: The Valentine’s Day Symphony at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts

Weeks before February 14th, the air at Veda’s hums with a mix of anticipation and meticulous strategy. Owner’s Rhonda & Kim have a knack for reading trends like tea leaves, as they review their spreadsheets of past sales.

Valentine’s isn’t a day; it’s a season,” they agree. “If the 14th falls midweek, we’re juggling pre-orders for office deliveries, romantic dinners, and last-minute dashes. Every year teaches us something new. We embrace challenges like that quite often.”

Nestled on the charming historic square of Murfreesboro, TN, our shop might be small in size, but during this annual celebration of love, it transforms into the heartbeat of the community, pulsing with the energy, anticipation, and determination of a team ready to make magic happen.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, affectionately called “the little flower shop on the square” by locals, Valentine’s Day isn’t just a holiday—it’s actually a full-blown floral marathon.

The Calm Before the (Floral) Storm

For many businesses, Valentine’s Day is just one day, but for florists, it’s more like a three-day, adrenaline-fueled festival of petals, ribbons, and romantic sentiments. This year was no different, and as always, it all began weeks in advance.

Every year, our Valentine’s Day prep starts with careful review of sales data from prior years, mixed with a little gut instinct and a sprinkle of community insight. How many dozen red roses were sold last year? Were customers leaning more toward classic rose arrangements or branching out into colorful mixed bouquets and modern designs? What worked, what could improve, and what trends are popping up in the floral world?

We know one thing for sure—proper planning is our love language.

When the Unexpected Happens…

This year, however, the flower gods decided to test us. One of our earliest floral shipments—containing a significant portion of our premium blooms—somehow found its way to a completely different city. Imagine the collective gasp in our shop when the tracking notifications lit up our phones like warning flares. Our “Plan A” had seemingly gone rogue! We almost had to go “Plan B’ to save the day!

But that’s the thing about seasoned florists: we don’t just have a Plan A. We have a Plan B and a solid Plan C ready to roll. After a few nail-biting hours, countless phone calls, and a little logistical magic, the misplaced shipment arrived just in time. Our coolers were soon bursting at the seams with fresh roses, tulips, lilies, and hydrangeas. Valentine’s Day was back on track—and so were we.

The Dream Team: Designers, Drivers, and the Coffee Brigade

Once the flowers are secured, it’s time for our Valentine’s Day battalion to assemble. The week of February 14th, Veda’s is buzzing from sunrise to well after sunset. Extra floral designers step behind the workbenches, armed with floral tape and clippers, ready to turn stems and blooms into handcrafted works of art. Front desk pros field nonstop phone calls and greet a steady stream of walk-in customers, each one looking for the perfect arrangement to say “I love you.”

And the delivery drivers? They’re the unsung heroes, darting through town like floral cupids on wheels, delivering joy straight to doorsteps, offices, and classrooms. Each knock on the door and surprise delivery brings wide-eyed grins, happy tears, and warm embraces. As one of our veteran drivers puts it, “We live for those moments. The look on someone’s face when they get flowers on Valentine’s Day—it’s priceless.”

More Than Roses: The Art of Variety

Sure, red roses take center stage this time of year, but don’t be fooled—our customers love options. From bright and cheery Gerbera daisies to romantic pink peonies and rustic-chic wildflower mixes, we keep our coolers stocked with a variety of blooms. Some opt for elegant, pastel-toned arrangements while others go bold with vibrant colors and unique textures. This variety allows our designers to flex their creative muscles, crafting everything from modern minimalist bouquets to lush garden-style arrangements.

It’s not uncommon for a customer to walk in with a twinkle in their eye, looking for “something different this year,” and we love nothing more than rising to the occasion.

The Plan Behind the Romance

The secret behind a successful Valentine’s Day at Veda’s is simple: details, details, details.

Every aspect is mapped out. From the moment we unlock the door on February 14th (or sometimes even earlier depending on pre-orders) to the final delivery of the day, everything is choreographed like a symphony.

  • Inventory: Double-checked and then checked again.
  • Staff schedules: Strategically crafted to ensure peak coverage.
  • Delivery routes: Optimized for maximum efficiency.
  • Pre-orders: Organized and staged for seamless pickups and deliveries.

We even plan out meals for the team. You can’t run on love alone, after all! Early mornings start with hot coffee and trays of fresh doughnuts. By lunchtime, the back room fills with the mouthwatering aroma of crockpots simmering with homemade chili, complete with all the fixin’s—shredded cheese, diced onions, sour cream, and oyster crackers. These little moments of camaraderie and nourishment keep us fueled for the long, bustling day ahead.

The Excitement Builds…

As Valentine’s Day approaches, the buzz in the shop becomes electric. There’s laughter, the occasional “how are we doing on ribbon inventory?” shouted from the design bench, and the unmistakable scent of fresh-cut flowers filling the air.

Customers pop in, some with weeks of planning behind them, others hoping to make a last-minute love-fueled decision. Each order holds a story: the young man picking up a first-date bouquet, the spouse of 30 years who never misses a year, the parent surprising a child at school. These personal touches and stories of love, friendship, and affection fuel us just as much as caffeine and chili.

Delivery Day: Love on the Move

By the time the big day hits, the team is laser-focused. The delivery SUV’s and vans are loaded, orders are triple-checked, and the delivery crew fans out across Murfreesboro like petals on the wind.

There’s something about delivering flowers on Valentine’s Day that feels like being part of a grand secret. You’re the first to witness that instant transformation—eyes lighting up, hands flying to cover surprised smiles, heartfelt thank-yous, and happy tears. For a florist, there’s no better reward.

And while the adrenaline is high and the pace relentless, there’s also a warmth and pride that comes from knowing we’re playing a role in hundreds of personal love stories.

More Than a Business—It’s a Tradition

For Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, Valentine’s Day is about more than just sales and bouquets. It’s about tradition. Many families in Murfreesboro have relied on “the little flower shop on the square” for decades, entrusting us with their most meaningful expressions of love.

It’s about community, too. Our customers are our neighbors, friends, and fellow small business owners. We’re here to help them say “I love you,” “I’m thinking of you,” or “You mean the world to me” in the most timeless way possible—through flowers.

After the Petals Settle…

Once the last bouquet is delivered and the shop begins to quiet down, there’s a collective sigh of satisfaction. We did it. Another successful Valentine’s Day in the books. The team gathers one last time—tired but fulfilled, surrounded by empty flower buckets and stray ribbons—and shares a toast to teamwork, resilience, and a job well done.

We know next year will bring its own surprises and challenges. But that’s part of the charm. That’s part of what makes Veda’s not just a flower shop, but a part of Murfreesboro’s heartbeat.

So, as we clean up and prepare for the next big event, we’re already jotting down notes, tweaking plans, and dreaming of how to make next Valentine’s Day even more magical.

Because here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, when it comes to love, we’re always ready to go the extra mile—or city—if needed.

Keeping the Local Economy Running Great

Imagine strolling through the historic Murfreesboro public square. The sun catches the brick facades, the air buzzes with friendly chatter, and the scent of fresh blooms drifts from Veda’s Flowers & Gifts known by locals as The Little Flower Shop on the Square.

This isn’t just a picturesque scene; it’s a snapshot of a thriving local economy, powered by you. This isn’t just about buying a bouquet; it’s about investing in your community. It’s about keeping the heart of Murfreesboro beating strong with your heart filled patronage.

Why is supporting local businesses so crucial? Let’s delve into the historical and psychological reasons, exploring how your choices shape the very fabric of our town.

A Walk Through Time: The Roots of Local Commerce

Think back to Murfreesboro’s early days. Before sprawling malls and online giants, the town square was the epicenter of commerce. Local merchants, often families like ours at The Little Flower Shop, were the backbone of the community. They knew their customers by name, understood their needs, and were invested in the town’s well-being.

This personal connection fostered trust and a sense of shared prosperity. This tradition is not unique to Murfreesboro. Throughout history, small businesses have been the lifeblood of communities worldwide. They provided essential goods and services, created jobs, and fostered a sense of belonging. They weren’t just businesses; they were integral parts of the social fabric.

The Psychology of Connection: Why Local Matters

There’s a deep psychological connection to shopping local. When you buy from a small business, you’re not just making a transaction; you’re building a relationship. You’re supporting a dream, a family’s livelihood, and the unique character of your town. This creates a sense of community pride and fosters a feeling of belonging.

Studies have shown that people who shop locally tend to feel more connected to their community. They experience a greater sense of satisfaction knowing their purchases are directly impacting their neighbors and contributing to the overall well-being of their town. It’s a tangible way to invest in something bigger than yourself.

The Engine of the Local Economy: Numbers Don’t Lie

Local businesses are the engine that drives a healthy local economy. When you spend your money locally, a significantly larger portion of that money stays within the community. This creates a ripple effect, benefiting other local businesses, creating jobs, and boosting local tax revenue, which funds essential services like schools and infrastructure.

While precise figures specifically tracking the impact of “shop local” campaigns in Murfreesboro are limited, we can see the positive effects in other key indicators.

Between 2021 and 2022, Murfreesboro experienced a 3.03% population growth, rising from 148,970 to 153,487. This growth was accompanied by an increase in median household income, from $66,984 to $70,000. This economic growth is intertwined with the health of our local businesses. Furthermore, the arts and culture sector in Rutherford County, which includes Murfreesboro, generates approximately $31.2 million annually and supports over 1,000 full-time equivalent jobs.

Many of these cultural hubs are small, locally owned businesses that contribute significantly to the vibrancy of our community. Organizations like LOCAL Murfreesboro actively promote and support local businesses, highlighting their importance to our city’s economic vitality. Their efforts underscore the collective impact of choosing to shop local.

The Murfreesboro Story: Examples of Local Impact

Think of the family-owned restaurants that have been serving Murfreesboro for generations, the local bookstores that foster a love of reading, or the independent boutiques that offer unique finds. These businesses are not just places to shop; they’re part of Murfreesboro’s identity. They contribute to the unique charm and character that makes our town so special.

The Little Flower Shop on the Square is part of this story. We’re not just selling flowers; we’re creating memories, celebrating milestones, and adding beauty to everyday life. We’re part of the fabric of this community, and we’re committed to its continued success.

What is the Keystone Project All About?

Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is on the brink of a significant transformation with the introduction of Project Keystone, a $175 million capital investment aimed at revitalizing the downtown area.

Spearheaded by Brentwood-based developer HRP Residential, the project encompasses a seven-acre tract along Broad Street, stretching from Church Street to Vine Street.

The development plans include approximately 100 condominiums, 239 apartments, 40,000 square feet of retail space, and a boutique hotel featuring up to 150 rooms.

To address potential parking challenges, the proposal includes the addition of 715 parking spaces distributed across three parking garages and ground-level parking.

Infrastructure improvements such as additional turn lanes and pedestrian crossings are also planned to alleviate traffic congestion in the area.

The project has elicited mixed reactions from the community. Some residents are optimistic about the economic boost and increased business opportunities it could bring to downtown merchants. However, concerns have been raised regarding the high proportion of apartments compared to condominiums, with apprehensions about potential long-term maintenance and aesthetic issues.

Councilmember Shawn Wright, the sole dissenting vote on the city council, expressed his preference for more condominiums and fewer apartments, citing worries about the future appearance and upkeep of the apartment units.

As of August 2024, the project faced financing challenges, particularly concerning the boutique hotel component, due to rising interest rates.

City officials have been working to restructure the project’s phases to better manage financing and aim to commence construction by October or November 2024.

Project Keystone represents a pivotal moment for Murfreesboro, with the potential to reshape the city’s landscape and economy.

As the city balances growth with community concerns, the outcome of this development will significantly influence Murfreesboro’s future trajectory.

Say It With Flowers – Designed with Love

Flowers… they have been a universal language of love, admiration, and affection for centuries. From ancient civilizations to modern times, blooms have carried profound meaning, expressing emotions that words sometimes struggle to capture.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts known as the little flower shop on the square, nestled in the heart of Murfreesboro’s historic downtown public square, we believe in the power of flowers to speak volumes.

Historically, flowers are powerful because:

  • They transcend language barriers.
  • In a world of diverse cultures and languages, flowers offer a common ground. A bouquet of roses, for example, speaks of love and romance across borders and generations.
  •
  • They evoke powerful memories.
  • The scent of a particular flower can instantly transport you back to a cherished childhood memory, a special occasion, or a loved one.
  •
  • They express emotions with nuance.
  • While words can sometimes feel blunt, flowers offer a delicate and nuanced way to convey feelings. A single stem of a vibrant sunflower can express joy and admiration, while a cluster of lilies symbolizes purity and innocence.

Love in Every Design

At our family-owned and operated shop, we believe that every arrangement should tell a story. We pour our hearts and souls into each design, carefully selecting the freshest blooms and crafting them into unique expressions of love, joy, and appreciation.

  • Understanding Your Intent:
Before we even begin designing, we take the time to understand your purpose. Are you celebrating a birthday, expressing condolences, or simply wanting to brighten someone’s day?
  •
  • Choosing the Perfect Blooms:
  • We carefully select flowers based on their symbolism, color, and seasonality. Roses, lilies, and tulips are classic choices for romantic occasions, while sunflowers and daisies convey cheerfulness and optimism.
  •
  • Crafting with Care:
  • Each arrangement is meticulously crafted by our experienced floral designers. We pay close attention to detail, ensuring that every stem is placed perfectly to create a visually stunning and emotionally resonant piece.

A Flower for Every Season

No matter the time of year, there’s always something beautiful to celebrate with flowers.

  • Spring: Embrace the vibrant energy of spring with arrangements featuring tulips, daffodils, and hyacinths.

Fresh Flowers, Fast Delivery

Okay, let me tell you, running a flower shop with my sister, Kim, is never dull. Veda’s Flower & Gift Shop, nestled right here on the historic downtown square in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, is a whirlwind of color, fragrance, and, let’s be honest, occasional chaos.

We get a lot of orders, and I mean a LOT. Birthdays, anniversaries, “just because” – you name it, we’ve got a bouquet for it. But let’s be real, nothing compares to the madness of Valentine’s Day. It’s like the whole town suddenly develops a serious case of “flower fever.”

“Rhonda,” Kim will say, her eyes wide with a mischievous glint, “you’re on delivery duty!” And that’s my cue. It’s time to load up and get delivering!

I grab a cooler overflowing with arrangements, making sure to secure them with as many “floral transport delivery sponges” as humanly possible. You’d think we’d have a lifetime supply after Valentine’s Day, but somehow, we always seem to need more.

Deliveries are an adventure. You never know what you’re going to encounter. Once, a particularly enthusiastic dog decided our delivery van was his new favorite chew toy. Another time, we had to politely but firmly shoo a flock of curious chickens off the driveway of a farm.

And let’s not forget the time a rogue rooster decided to stage a one-bird protest against our presence. “Just breathe and smell the roses Kim would say, trying to stifle a laugh. And you know what? She’s right.

Even amidst the chaos, there’s always beauty. The smiles on people’s faces when they receive their stunning arrangements are priceless. The sheer joy of delivering a little bit of happiness to someone’s doorstep makes it all worthwhile any time of the year.

Of course, there are challenges. Coordinating deliveries for dozens of addresses can feel like solving a complex puzzle. It takes a village, and I mean that literally.

Our family and friends become honorary delivery drivers, navigating the streets of Murfreesboro with a mix of enthusiasm and mild panic. Sometimes you are so busy delivering you forget about filling up the gas tank.

There are those times when you are so busy getting from place to place that you forget to grab something for breakfast or lunch. Our GO TO is to grab a few coffees and doughnuts.

But despite the occasional near-miss with a runaway goat or a surprise encounter with a grumpy goose, we always manage to deliver on time, on schedule and sometimes we encounter the coolest pets that just know how to chill. And that’s something to celebrate.

So, if you’re ever in Murfreesboro, stop by Veda’s. We’d love to create a beautiful arrangement for you. And who knows, maybe you’ll even get to witness one of our legendary delivery escapades firsthand.

Just try not to laugh too hard at my attempts to keep a dozen roses from toppling over. Happy delivering!

A Funny Race of a Secret Admirer

Ah, June 2017—a month etched in my memory as the dawn of a dream. That was the month we flung open the doors of Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, our charming little flower shop on the Murfreesboro historic public square.

Back then, the square was our canvas, and every visitor was a brushstroke. We greeted each customer with open arms, handed them a smile to-go, and cheekily asked for their email addresses because what’s a shop without a newsletter, right?

When Veda’s was new, the flow of customers was more of a trickle than a flood. But, oh, how we made the most of it! Between arranging bouquets and adjusting the displays, I busied myself creating a Facebook business page and an Instagram account for Veda’s.

My vision was simple: showcase our little shop’s personality through daily posts that could charm the socks off anyone scrolling through. I set ambitious goals for myself—500 Facebook followers and 1,000 Instagram followers within six months.

As the weeks rolled by, our Instagram gained momentum. I’d post pictures of vibrant bouquets, quirky gift arrangements, and behind-the-scenes antics.

Around the 600-follower mark, Brian, my husband, suddenly took an interest in my social media obsession. I should have been suspicious, but I chalked it up to his supportive nature.

Enter: Murfreesboro Square Shops

A week or so later, my sister Kim and I noticed a peculiar Instagram account named “Murfreesboro Square Shops.” It seemed dedicated to showcasing local businesses around the square, and to our surprise (and delight), they appeared to have a soft spot for Veda’s.

This mysterious account shared our posts at a rate of three to one compared to other shops. It was as if we had a secret admirer! Naturally, we wanted to thank this benevolent promoter. I asked Brian, my friends, and even the neighboring shopkeepers if they knew who ran the account.

All responses were variations of, “No idea, but they sure do like you!” Over the weeks, this “secret admirer” continued their campaign, boosting our posts at what became a 4:1 ratio. I was flattered, albeit curious.

The Plot Thickens

By the time our Instagram account hit 850 followers, Murfreesboro Square Shops had amassed 770 followers of its own. The account’s devotion to Veda’s was becoming a hot topic among the ladies of the square. “Rhonda, who is this Murfreesboro Square Shops? They’re practically your fan club!” they’d ask. I could only shrug and laugh, equally amused and mystified.

One Saturday, while driving back to Murfreesboro from visiting my Uncle Billy in west Nashville, the mystery took an unexpected turn. Brian was driving, and I was, as usual, glued to my phone, crafting an Instagram post for Veda’s.

How’s it going?” Brian asked casually.Great,” I replied, not looking up. “I’m almost at 1,000 followers—968 to be exact.” A few minutes later, Brian asked again, “How many followers does Murfreesboro Square Shops have?” I checked and replied, “1,012.” Brian grinned but said nothing.

Another minute passed before he blurted, “I know who runs Murfreesboro Square Shops!” I looked at him, wide-eyed. “Who is it?” With a sheepish chuckle, he confessed, “It’s me!”

The Secret’s Out

To say I was floored would be an understatement. Brian went on to explain that he’d created Murfreesboro Square Shops as a playful experiment and a way to help promote Veda’s Flowers & Gifts. He’d challenged himself to see if he could grow his Instagram account faster than Veda’s Instagram account, despite a disadvantage late start.

It had been a secret race to 1,000 followers all along! Apparently, keeping this secret wasn’t easy for Brian. He’d enlisted our niece Chloe and our daughter Aleia as accomplices knowing this secret from almost the beginning. Together, they all orchestrated the ultimate social media surprise sneak attack.

The Aftermath

I couldn’t help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. Brian’s prank had not only entertained him for weeks but had also provided priceless publicity for Veda’s. By the time Murfreesboro Square Shops hit 1,000 followers, our shop wasn’t far behind, and the buzz it generated among our fellow business owners was icing on the cake.

Today, Murfreesboro Square Shops sits at a respectable 2,721 followers. Though the account has gone dormant, Brian assures me it’ll spring back to life soon. As for Veda’s, we’re thriving—not just because of our beautiful flowers and gifts but because of the love and creativity that went into building our presence, both online and in the community.

A Family Story for the Ages

Looking back, I can’t help but smile at the memory of Brian’s little social media experiment. What started as a playful challenge turned into a cherished family story that we’ll laugh about for years to come.

So, yes, I’ll admit it: Murfreesboro Square Shops won the race to 1,000 followers. But the real victory? The joy, laughter, and love that went into the journey. And if you’re reading this, Brian—thanks for being my biggest cheerleader, my secret admirer, and, above all, my partner in life. Here’s to more laughs, more flowers, and maybe a rematch on Instagram one day.
