The Language of Christmas Flowers: What Poinsettias, Amaryllis & Evergreens Really Say

Christmas has a way of speaking to us long before a single word is said. It whispers through twinkling lights, crackling fireplaces, handwritten cards—and, perhaps most eloquently, through flowers.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, the little flower shop on the square, we see it every December: people walk in asking for something “festive” or “meaningful,” but what they’re really looking for is a feeling. A memory. A message.

Flowers have always carried symbolism, and at Christmastime, that symbolism deepens. These aren’t just decorations; they’re storytellers.

A poinsettia might recall childhood Christmases at Grandma’s house. An amaryllis may represent quiet strength and elegance. A bundle of fresh evergreens can feel like a promise that life continues—even in the heart of winter.

Downtown Murfreesboro in December feels cinematic in its own right. The square glows, the air turns crisp, and Veda’s becomes a hub of holiday emotion.

Whether you’re sending flowers across town, decorating your home, or stopping in just to breathe in the scent of pine and cedar, the blooms of Christmas are already speaking to you.

So let’s slow down for a moment and listen. Here’s what the most beloved Christmas flowers are really saying—and why they’ve earned their place in homes, hearts, and holiday traditions year after year.

Poinsettias: The Heartbeat of Christmas

If Christmas had an official flower, the poinsettia would wear the crown.

With its bold red bracts and deep green leaves, it practically is Christmas in botanical form. But beyond its festive look, the poinsettia speaks the language of love, joy, and celebration.

Historically, poinsettias trace back to Mexico, where they were known as Flores de Noche Buena—Flowers of the Holy Night. Their star-shaped leaves became symbols of the Star of Bethlehem, making them deeply tied to the spiritual heart of the season.

Their star-shaped leaves became symbols of the Star of Bethlehem, making them deeply tied to the spiritual heart of the season.

In modern homes, they’ve become the universal signal that Christmas has arrived.

At Veda’s, poinsettias are more than porch décor. We see customers choose them for teachers, neighbors, church friends, and family members because they say, “I thought of you.”

Red varieties express warmth and tradition, while white poinsettias whisper peace and reverence. Pink adds a softer, more playful tone—perfect for gift-giving with personality. And yes, they’re living plants—meaning they continue the conversation long after Christmas Day has passed.

And yes, they’re living plants—meaning they continue the conversation long after Christmas Day has passed.

Amaryllis: Quiet Drama & Elegant Strength

Amaryllis doesn’t shout. It commands attention.

With tall, graceful stems and oversized trumpet blooms, the amaryllis symbolizes confidence, beauty, and resilience—all qualities we tend to admire most during the holiday season. It blooms boldly in the middle of winter, reminding us that something stunning can emerge even in the coldest moments.

This flower is a favorite for those who love understated drama. Red amaryllis echo classic Christmas colors, while white varieties feel almost snow-kissed and serene. They’re perfect for entryways, dining tables, or as gifts for someone who appreciates elegance over excess.

We often recommend amaryllis bulbs as gifts because they come with anticipation built in. You’re not just giving a flower—you’re giving the experience of watching beauty unfold. It’s patience rewarded, and that’s a message worth sharing during the holidays.

Evergreens: The Soul of the Season

Evergreens are the storytellers of endurance. Pine, cedar, fir, and spruce have been used in winter celebrations for centuries because they symbolize eternity, hope, and renewal.

While everything else goes dormant, they remain vibrant—living proof that life persists.

At Christmas, evergreens form the backbone of wreaths, garlands, centerpieces, and mantel décor. Their fragrance alone can transport you instantly to childhood mornings and late-night wrapping sessions. That scent? It’s memory, bottled in needles and bark.

At Veda’s, we love blending fresh evergreens with unexpected accents—magnolia leaves for Southern charm, eucalyptus for softness, berries for color, and pinecones for texture.

These arrangements don’t just decorate a space; they ground it. They say, “You are home.”

When Flowers Speak Together

The real magic happens when poinsettias, amaryllis, and evergreens are combined. Together, they create a floral language that says:

  • We celebrate

  • We remember

  • We welcome

  • We endure

A Christmas centerpiece isn’t just a table decoration—it’s the emotional anchor of the room. A wreath isn’t just greenery—it’s a greeting. And a floral gift isn’t just pretty—it’s personal.

That’s why, in our little flower shop on the square, we take such care in every stem, ribbon, and arrangement. We know these flowers will sit in homes during laughter, prayer, quiet reflection, and joyful chaos. They become part of the story.

Listening to the Season

This December, we invite you to listen a little closer. When you see a poinsettia glowing in a window, an amaryllis standing tall on a table, or evergreen garland draped along a railing, know that it’s saying something meaningful.

And if you’re not sure what message you want to send—hope, gratitude, love, remembrance—we’re here to help translate. That’s what we do best at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts: turning flowers into feelings, right here in the heart of downtown Murfreesboro.

Because Christmas doesn’t just speak through words.
Sometimes, it blooms. 🌲🌺✨

From Classic to Creative: Christmas Wreath Ideas That Impress All December Long

December in Middle Tennessee carries its own special flavor of holiday magic. The air may be crisp or surprisingly warm—depending on what mood Tennessee weather wakes up in—but the spirit of Christmas never fails to arrive right on schedule.

Around Murfreesboro, porches start glowing, candles flicker through frosty windows, and the historic town square becomes a warm, twinkling postcard come to life.

And right at the heart of all that cheer is one timeless symbol: the Christmas wreath. Before the cocoa is made, before stockings are hung, before presents are wrapped—there’s that satisfying moment of placing a wreath on your door. It’s the unofficial start of the season, the cue that December can now proceed with all its sparkle and joy.

At The Little Flower Shop on the Square, we’ve seen firsthand how a wreath can transform a home’s entire personality. It’s more than a circle of greenery—it’s a handshake to your guests, a message of welcome, and sometimes even a statement piece that outshines the rest of the décor.

Some customers want classic tradition. Others crave creative flair. And some want something that looks like it walked straight out of a Hallmark movie.

That’s why we adore December: it’s the one time of year when creativity and nostalgia share the same stage. You get to decide whether your door whispers “cozy Southern Christmas,” belts out “sparkle and shine,” or offers a playful “Fa-la-la, let’s have fun this year!”

And no matter your style, there’s a wreath design waiting to impress your friends, neighbors, delivery drivers, and anyone strolling past your porch.

As you explore these ideas, think of them as a festive buffet—classic, modern, whimsical, rustic, glamorous, or totally original. Choose one that speaks to your December spirit, or mix and match to create a look that’s distinctly you.

December has a way of turning even the most ordinary front door into a doorway of magic. Lights twinkle, cocoa warms the hands, and the iconic Christmas wreath takes center stage—greeting guests with festive flair long before they step inside.

At The Little Flower Shop on the Square here in Murfreesboro, we’ve spent countless Decembers designing wreaths that bring joy, nostalgia, and a little Tennessee personality to homes all across Middle Tennessee. This season, we’re taking you on a wreath-design journey—from the timeless to the totally unexpected.

Whether you lean toward classic Southern charm, farmhouse vibes, luxe metallics, or whimsical woodland textures, we’ve got December inspiration to make your door the talk of the neighborhood.

🎄 1. The Timeless Evergreen—Because Some Traditions Are Too Good to Change

https://i.etsystatic.com/23421503/r/il/c52d6f/3062055616/il_570xN.3062055616_drdg.jpg

https://www.creeksidefarms.com/cdn/shop/products/fragrant-berries-and-cones-wreath-450511.jpg?v=1684451372

Let’s start with the granddaddy of them all: the traditional evergreen wreath. Think fresh Fraser fir, glossy magnolia leaves, sprigs of holly, and that bold red velvet bow that never stops being iconic.

Why it works in December:

  • The fragrance. It’s basically Christmas cologne.

  • The simplicity. Evergreen looks good against any door—from rustic cabin wood to modern black matte.

  • The nostalgia. This wreath whispers "home" in every needle.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we add subtle Tennessee touches like magnolia pods, cedar sprigs, or locally sourced pinecones. It's a hometown classic with a Murfreesboro heartbeat.

🌟 2. Glam & Gold: For the Door That Lives to Shine

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/81k7tT8or2L.jpg

Some doors don’t whisper—they sing. If your December décor leans a little more “sparkle” and a little less “simple,” a gold-accented wreath may be your soulmate.

Design elements we love:

  • Metallic magnolia leaves

  • Gold-dipped pinecones

  • Champagne-colored ribbon

  • Shimmering berry clusters

Pro tip: If you have warm exterior lighting, gold wreaths practically glow at night. Your home becomes the holiday version of a movie premiere.

❄️ 3. Frosted & Snow-Kissed: Let It Snow… Even in Middle Tennessee

Sure, Murfreesboro may or may not get a white Christmas—but your wreath absolutely can.

Frosted December wreaths use:

  • Snow-dusted evergreens

  • Iced eucalyptus

  • Soft white berries

  • Flocked branches

  • Pale silver ribbons

This style creates a quiet, elegant winter fantasy—even when the temperature outside is closer to sweater weather than sleigh-bell weather.

If your home has cool-tone décor or white trim, this wreath becomes pure December poetry.

🎁 4. The Southern Hospitality Wreath: Warm, Welcoming & Distinctly Tennessee

Middle Tennessee homes know a thing or two about hospitality, and our wreaths prove it. A Southern Christmas wreath embraces warmth—both visually and aromatically.

Crowd-pleasing accents:

  • Magnolia leaves (glossy green + velvety brown = perfection)

  • Dried oranges

  • Cinnamon sticks

  • Cotton bolls

  • Burlap ribbons

It’s like a warm slice of holiday pie on your front porch. Sweet. Comforting. Unmistakably homegrown.

🕯️ 5. Candlelit Cottage Wreaths: Soft, Romantic & Storybook-Inspired

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/814svtEaA1L._AC_UF894%2C1000_QL80_.jpg

These wreaths feel like they’ve stepped out of a Hallmark holiday movie. Soft greenery, gentle fairy lights, and delicate florals such as white roses or winter peonies create a magical aesthetic.

Perfect for anyone who wants:

  • A softer December look

  • A fairy-tale vibe

  • A wreath that glows at night with battery-powered LED lights

These styles pair beautifully with lanterns, vintage porch décor, or Victorian-style homes.

🎅 6. Whimsical Santa-Inspired Wreaths—Because Christmas Should Be Fun

Some wreaths make people smile before they even reach your doormat. If you love laughter and festive cheer, 2025 is the year to go whimsical.

Design ideas include:

  • Peppermint swirls

  • Red-and-white striped ribbon

  • Mini Santa hats

  • Fuzzy trim

  • Oversized ornaments

These wreaths are especially great for families with kids—or for adults who proudly embrace their inner kid every December.

🌲 7. Rustic Woodland Wreaths: Cozy Cabin Energy, Even in the Suburbs

Not everyone decorates with glitter and shine. Some prefer the calm, earthy vibe of a peaceful forest—right on their front door.

Rustic wreath elements include:

  • Pinecones

  • Twigs

  • Cedar branches

  • Mini woodland creatures (think reindeer or owls)

  • Burlap or twine

These are perfect for cabins, farmhouses, or anyone who wants to bring a little nature into the holiday spirit.

🍭 8. Candyland & Gingerbread Wreaths: Sweet, Colorful & Totally Delicious

https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/A1yqmf5Z3cL._UF894%2C1000_QL80_.jpg

If your décor motto is “Go big or go home,” this one’s for you. Candy-themed wreaths have exploded in popularity and are pure joy to look at.

Fun additions include:

  • Gingerbread men

  • Fake candy canes

  • Gumdrop garlands

  • Whimsical ribbons

  • Bright pops of pink, aqua, and red

This wreath practically begs for compliments—and photos.

🌿 9. Minimalist Modern Wreaths: Clean, Simple & Stunning

For the sleek homeowner, minimalism doesn’t mean boring—it means intentional beauty.

Think:

  • Brass hoops

  • Asymmetric greenery

  • Small clusters of berries

  • Neutral ribbons

These wreaths look especially striking on modern black or charcoal-colored doors. Clean lines + December greenery = chef’s kiss.

💐 10. Floral Fantasy Wreaths: When You Want to Stand Out from the Crowd

At The Little Flower Shop on the Square, we love weaving our floral artistry into wreath form for your home both inside and outside, your office workspace, or even your barn or she-shed.

Popular December choices are:

  • Red roses

  • White hydrangeas

  • Winter peonies

  • Ranunculus

  • Dusty miller

This is the wreath for anyone who wants elegance, drama, and soft floral charm—even in winter.

🎉 Final Thoughts: Your Door Deserves December Magic

Whether you choose timeless evergreen, shimmering gold, Southern comfort, or a whimsical candy-covered creation, your wreath is more than décor—it’s a welcome sign to the world. It says:

“This home celebrates, loves, and lives the Christmas spirit.”

And here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we’re honored to help make that magic happen. If you saw a wreath style you love—or want something completely custom—come visit us on the historic Murfreesboro square. December only comes once a year… so let’s decorate like we mean it.

Grateful Gatherings: Thanksgiving Centerpieces That Tell a Story

As the air turns crisp and the scent of roasted pecans and pumpkin pie begins to drift through the streets of Murfreesboro, we find ourselves entering one of the most heartwarming seasons of all — Thanksgiving.

It’s a time to slow down, to gather with family and friends, and to reflect on the blessings that fill our lives like a table overflowing with goodness.

Here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we believe that every Thanksgiving table tells a story — and at the heart of that story should be something beautiful, meaningful, and alive with gratitude: a centerpiece that speaks from the heart.

🌻 The Meaning Behind the Centerpiece

At its best, a Thanksgiving centerpiece isn’t just decoration — it’s connection. It ties together everyone seated around the table: grandparents, children, neighbors, and friends. It reflects the season, the setting, and the spirit of gratitude that defines this day.

When we design a Thanksgiving arrangement at Veda’s, we imagine it as the “conversation piece” — not because it’s fancy, but because it feels personal. It might feature a bloom that reminds you of your mother’s garden, or a color that matches Grandma’s heirloom dishes.

It might include branches, berries, or wheat that echo your family’s farm roots.

Each one tells a story, and every petal is a page in the book of your celebration.

🍂 Inspiration from the Heart of the South

Thanksgiving in the South is something special. It’s not just a meal; it’s a moment — where time seems to slow down just long enough for laughter, storytelling, and second helpings.

Our floral designers at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts draw inspiration from Southern heritage, harvest colors, and the natural beauty of Tennessee in November.

We use textures and tones that capture the feeling of the season — like rust-colored mums, golden sunflowers, deep burgundy dahlias, and the rich greens of magnolia leaves.

These elements bring both warmth and elegance to your holiday table, creating a look that’s as comforting as Grandma’s sweet potato casserole.

Our signature 2025 collection, “Grateful Gatherings,” is all about storytelling through design — each centerpiece reflecting the gratitude, legacy, and love that make Thanksgiving meaningful.

🌾 Introducing Our 2025 “Grateful Gatherings” Collection

Every year, we craft new centerpiece styles inspired by the people, traditions, and colors of our community. Here are a few of our favorites from this season’s lineup:

🧡 The Harvest Story Centerpiece

This lush arrangement combines fall hydrangeas, roses, wheat, and eucalyptus in a rustic wooden box — perfect for long farmhouse tables. It symbolizes abundance, family, and the beauty of life’s simple blessings.

💛 Golden Grace Arrangement

A warm, elegant mix of gold-tinted magnolia leaves, creamy roses, and amber mums. It’s designed to reflect gratitude and grace — perfect for gatherings that blend tradition with modern Southern style.

❤️ The Heirloom Gathering Bowl

A low, rounded centerpiece filled with deep reds, burnt orange, and fresh greens — inspired by vintage Southern heirloom pottery. It’s ideal for tables where conversation and togetherness take center stage.

🤎 Candlelight & Cranberries

A timeless favorite featuring taper candles surrounded by fresh blooms, berries, and pine accents — the perfect centerpiece to transition from Thanksgiving to early Christmas gatherings.

Each design in our collection is hand-crafted here in our shop on the historic Murfreesboro Square, with care, creativity, and just a touch of Veda’s signature Southern charm.

🕯️ How to Choose the Right Centerpiece for Your Table

Not every Thanksgiving table looks the same — and your centerpiece shouldn’t either! Here are a few Veda’s tips for finding the perfect floral fit:

  1. Shape & Size Matter:
Long rectangular tables look best with elongated arrangements, while round or square tables call for compact, full designs that allow everyone to see across the table.

  2. Think of the Flow:
You want your centerpiece to complement, not compete, with your dishes. Keep it low enough for eye contact and conversation, and avoid strong scents that might overpower your meal.

  3. Add Candlelight:
Nothing says warmth like a flicker of flame. Ask us to include taper or pillar candles for an extra glow that feels both cozy and elegant.

  4. Reflect Your Story:
Incorporate elements that mean something to you — like family heirloom vases, fall fruits, or small keepsakes that remind everyone why they’re grateful.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we love helping families customize their arrangements. Whether you want a centerpiece that honors a loved one, celebrates a first Thanksgiving in a new home, or matches your favorite china pattern — we’ll design it with meaning and care.

🧺 Flowers, Family, and Food — A Perfect Trio

There’s something about the way flowers tie everything together. They bring life to the table, soften the setting, and remind us that beauty can be simple.

A floral centerpiece isn’t just decoration; it’s a reflection of how much we care about those gathered around it.

This Thanksgiving, as you prepare your turkey, bake your pies, and polish your silver, let us create a centerpiece that reminds your guests what this season is all about — gratitude, grace, and gathering.

Because when you surround yourself with flowers, family, and food, you’re truly surrounded by blessings.

🧡 A Few of Our Favorite Thanksgiving Traditions

At The Little Flower Shop on the Square, we love hearing about how families celebrate Thanksgiving across Murfreesboro. Some customers come in every November for the same centerpiece — a yearly ritual passed down through generations. Others bring in children or grandchildren to help choose flowers for Grandma’s table.

Here are a few of our favorite ways our community celebrates the holiday:

  • Families exchanging handwritten gratitude notes at dinner, placing them under each plate.

  • Setting an extra chair for loved ones who couldn’t be there, symbolized by a single flower in a vase.

  • Creating “mini centerpieces” for kids’ tables, using pumpkins and bright blooms.

  • Sending Thanksgiving arrangements to family or friends you can’t be with in person — a way to say “we’re thankful for you” from miles away.

It’s these small gestures that remind us how much love grows around a Thanksgiving table — and how a simple bouquet can become part of a cherished memory.

🏡 Bringing Warmth to the Heart of Murfreesboro

When the sun sets over the Murfreesboro Square and the lamplights glow against brick buildings, there’s a feeling of home that’s hard to describe.

It’s in the laughter spilling out of restaurants, the scent of pie from local bakeries, and the sound of friendly greetings between shop doors.

We’re proud to be part of that story — part of this grateful gathering that makes our downtown so special.

Every centerpiece we send out carries a piece of that community spirit with it — made with Tennessee-grown touches, heartfelt craftsmanship, and the joy of sharing beauty with others.

🌾 From Our Table to Yours

As Thanksgiving draws near, we want to say thank you — to our customers, our neighbors, and everyone who makes The Little Flower Shop on the Square such a special place to bloom.

We’re honored to design the arrangements that grace your tables, brighten your homes, and tell your stories.

So, as you count your blessings this year, remember — every bloom, every leaf, every little touch of beauty is a reminder of what truly matters: love, family, and gratitude.

From all of us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we wish you a warm, joyful, and beautifully bloomed Thanksgiving. 🍂💛

From Mistletoe to Magnolia: Holiday Arrangements with Southern Charm

There’s something truly magical about a Southern Christmas. It’s the blend of magnolia leaves and mistletoe, the scent of sweet tea mingling with cinnamon spice, and the feeling that somehow—no matter how chilly it gets outside—the South always keeps its warmth.

Here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, right in the heart of historic downtown Murfreesboro, we believe the holidays are best celebrated the Southern way—with grace, charm, hospitality, and a home that feels as warm as a heartfelt hug.

This season, our design tables are overflowing with pine, magnolia, cedar, berries, and blooms, ready to bring a touch of Southern magic to your holiday gatherings.

Whether you’re decking your front porch or setting the table for Christmas dinner, our holiday arrangements are here to help you celebrate with heart, home, and heritage.

🌿 A Southern Twist on Christmas Tradition

While many think of poinsettias and holly as the stars of Christmas décor, Southerners have always added their own flair. Down here, we like to mix a little magnolia magic into the mix.

Magnolia leaves, with their glossy green tops and velvety brown undersides, are a Southern designer’s dream. They bring texture, depth, and timeless beauty to wreaths, garlands, and centerpieces.

Paired with pinecones, red berries, and a bit of ribbon, they create an elegant balance of rustic and refined—a look that says “Christmas in the South.”

And let’s not forget the mistletoe—that little bundle of tradition that’s been sparking holiday romance for generations. At Veda’s, we love adding touches of mistletoe to our arrangements and gift packages as a nod to classic charm and playful nostalgia.

This year’s holiday collection, “From Mistletoe to Magnolia,” celebrates exactly that—the blending of old and new, North and South, sparkle and simplicity.

🎄 The Inspiration Behind the Collection

Our inspiration comes straight from what we see around us every day:
the historic square, draped in twinkle lights; the Victorian-style homes dressed in wreaths and bows; and the neighbors who stop by our shop just to share a smile and a story.

We wanted our 2025 holiday collection to feel authentic—not just festive, but personal. Every bouquet, garland, and arrangement tells a story of Southern hospitality and holiday heart.

Magnolia Moonlight Centerpiece

A stunning mix of magnolia, winter greens, creamy roses, and gold accents—perfect for a dinner table that’s both elegant and inviting.

Mistletoe & Memories Bouquet

Red and white blooms nestled among fresh greens, tiny ornaments, and a whisper of mistletoe. A little nostalgia, a lot of love.

Southern Porch Wreath

Nothing says “welcome home” like this mix of magnolia, pine, eucalyptus, and velvet ribbon. Designed for front doors, gates, or mantle décor.

Sugarplum Magnolia Garland

A graceful garland of magnolia leaves intertwined with cedar, pinecones, and sugared berries—perfect for stair rails or banisters.

Each one is hand-crafted right here in our shop, made with care, creativity, and that unmistakable Murfreesboro magic.

🕯️ The Heart Behind Every Arrangement

At Veda’s, we’ve always said that flowers don’t just decorate a room—they tell a story. Every bloom we choose carries emotion, from the deep red roses that whisper love, to the white lilies that reflect purity and peace.

During the holidays, we see families picking up arrangements to honor loved ones, friends exchanging bouquets as tokens of gratitude, and children helping their parents choose poinsettias for Grandma’s house.

That’s the real magic of what we create—it’s more than flowers, it’s feeling.

🌸 Decorating the Southern Way

Southerners have a knack for hospitality, especially during the holidays. We like to say that if your house doesn’t smell like cinnamon and your table doesn’t have a centerpiece, you’re just not quite ready yet!

If you’re decorating your home this year, here are a few Veda’s decorating tips straight from our design table:

  1. Blend Fresh and Faux: Mix fresh greenery with silk or preserved magnolia leaves for longevity and fullness.

  2. Add a Personal Touch: Tuck in family heirloom ornaments, vintage brooches, or even handwritten gift tags into wreaths or arrangements.

  3. Think Layers: Start with a base of greens, then add color through blooms, berries, and ribbon for a full, lush look.

  4. Bring the Outdoors In: Southern décor celebrates nature—pinecones, magnolia pods, cotton stems, and twigs make beautiful additions.

  5. Use Candlelight: Pair your floral arrangements with flickering candles for warmth and romance.

Your home doesn’t need to be perfect—it just needs to feel welcoming. And with a few fresh touches from Veda’s, it will.

🏠 Community, Connection & Christmas Cheer

Here in Murfreesboro, the holidays aren’t about hustle—they’re about heart. The historic square transforms into a storybook setting, and we love being part of that magic.

Every year, we deck out our shop windows with glowing garlands, vintage ornaments, and arrangements that stop passersby in their tracks.

We love hearing the doorbell jingle as families step inside from the cold. Some come to pick out gifts, others to order a bouquet for Christmas Eve dinner, and a few just to breathe in that cozy scent of fresh pine and flowers that beautifully decorates the fireplace mantel.

It’s a place where memories bloom—where local faces and new visitors alike come together to share the joy of the season. And as we always say, when you shop small, you share something big: community.

🎁 Gifts That Bloom with Meaning

Looking for something special to gift this year? Skip the ordinary and give something that blooms!

Our shelves are stocked with thoughtful treasures—from mini floral jars and custom ornaments to scented candles, gift baskets, and keepsake vases.

Our “Holiday Bloom Boxes” are especially popular this season—a curated mix of fresh flowers, local goodies, and a dash of Southern charm. Each one is wrapped with care and ready to bring joy to someone’s doorstep.

And if you’re not sure what to choose, our friendly team is always here to help you design a one-of-a-kind gift that fits your style, your story, and your budget.

❤️ From Our Family to Yours

As another year comes to a close, we find ourselves feeling especially grateful—for our customers, for our community, and for the chance to help make your holidays a little brighter.

From the first magnolia leaf we wire to the last ribbon we tie, every detail is made with love. Because at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we don’t just sell flowers—we share joy, beauty, and a little bit of Southern soul.

So whether you’re decking the halls, setting the table, or surprising someone you love, remember this:

🕯️ The Spirit of Shopping Small

Every purchase you make downtown—whether it’s a bouquet from us, a meal from a local café, or a handmade ornament from a nearby artisan—stays right here in our community. It helps keep our historic square thriving and our neighbors flourishing.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we’re proud to be part of Murfreesboro’s story. We see firsthand how supporting small businesses creates ripples of joy that extend far beyond the holidays.

When you choose to shop local, you’re investing in friendships, families, and the very heartbeat of our town.

This year, more than ever, we’re thankful for the customers who make it possible for little shops like ours to continue blooming.

You’ve shared your stories, your smiles, and your traditions with us all year—and now it’s our turn to give back through festive beauty, joyful service, and heartfelt community spirit.

🏙️ Why Downtown Murfreesboro Shines Brighter Every Year

Historic downtown Murfreesboro isn’t just a shopping district—it’s a gathering place. It’s where childhood memories are made, where proposals are whispered under lampposts, and where friends meet for cocoa after a chilly evening stroll.

Each year, Downtown After 5: Holiday Edition grows a little brighter because of you. Families come early to watch the lights turn on. Couples hold hands as they wander through twinkling streets. Kids press their faces against frosted windows, wide-eyed at all the sparkle and color.

We’re proud to be part of this tradition—a place where the holidays come to life, one flower and one smile at a time.

🎄 Holiday Highlights Not to Miss

Here are just a few things we’re most excited about this year:

🛍️ Shop Local Specials: Many downtown businesses (including us!) will have exclusive one-night-only sales and giveaways.
🍫 Treats & Tastings: Sample delicious sweets and beverages as you stroll the square.
🌟 Window Wonderland: Take a walk and enjoy the magical holiday displays lighting up downtown.
📸 Photo Opportunities: Capture the moment with sparkling lights, decorated storefronts, and smiling faces.

❤️ From Our Hearts to Yours

For us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, this season is about more than garlands and gifts. It’s about gratitude—for this community, for our customers, and for the chance to be part of your celebrations year after year.

We love seeing familiar faces stop in to pick up poinsettias for the mantle, wreaths for the front door, or fresh arrangements to brighten a family gathering.

Each purchase reminds us that we’re not just a shop—we’re part of your traditions, part of your holidays, and part of what makes downtown Murfreesboro so special.

The city of Murfreesboro always shows up in the most heartwarming way to support the local businesses on our historic downtown Square. It’s one of the reasons this community feels less like a city and more like a family.

Every familiar face, every new visitor, every shared conversation becomes part of the friendships we treasure—friendships built with individuals and families big and small who make downtown feel like home. “Downtown After 5” captures that spirit beautifully, bringing out the best of the best in local talent, creativity, and community pride.

And this special pre-Christmas edition is just a prelude to what’s coming very soon—one of Murfreesboro’s most loved holiday traditions that transforms the Square into a scene straight out of a Christmas storybook.

So come share a smile, find a gift, warm your hands with a cup of cheer, or simply enjoy the magic of being together. Because here in The Little Flower Shop on the Square, we believe the holidays bloom brightest when shared with friends.

On the first Friday night of December, our community gathers around the historic Rutherford County Courthouse for one of the most cherished celebrations of the season—the annual lighting of the Rutherford County Christmas tree, presented by Middle Tennessee Electric.

Main Street Murfreesboro brings this tradition to life each year with joyful entertainment, heartfelt caroling, and a festive atmosphere that fills every corner of the Square.

Families bundle up, neighbors greet one another, and children wait with wide eyes for the moment Santa arrives.

The evening is full of classic small-town Christmas charm. Arrive early to enjoy dinner at one of downtown’s local restaurants, visit the live nativity, shop in unique small businesses, and take part in FREE kid-friendly activities and carriage rides beginning at 6:00 PM.

At 6:30 PM, the stage comes alive with an hour-long program featuring choir music, dancing, acting, and community performers.

The highlight, of course, is Santa himself stepping forward to help light the tree—an unforgettable moment that makes the Square glow with holiday spirit.

After the tree is lit, the celebration continues. From 7:30 to 8:30 PM, Santa heads inside the courthouse for free photos, while families continue to wander the Square enjoying entertainment, treats, and twinkling lights.

It’s a Christmas tradition for Murfreesboro—one that brings generations together—and we hope you and your family will be part of the festivities.

Please note: Parking in the Public Square will be closed at 5:00 PM. Convenient parking is available at the Civic Plaza and County Judicial parking garages.

Stay tuned—because the most magical days of the season are just ahead!

Small Shop, Big Stage: Veda’s Flowers Delivers Elegance to 800 Guests at Governor’s Conference 2025

🌸 A Big Opportunity for Our Little Flower Shop

If you’ve ever seen us bustling around The Little Flower Shop on the Square, you know our motto: no event is too small for heart, and no event is too big for hustle.

Well, the 2025 Tennessee Governor’s Conference put that motto to the ultimate test — and we couldn’t be prouder of how our small but mighty Murfreesboro shop rose to the occasion.

It all started with a phone call — the kind that makes your morning coffee go cold because your heart’s already racing.

We’d been selected as the official floral provider for the Governor’s Conference — a two-day event at the Embassy Suites Hotel in Murfreesboro, hosting more than 800 attendees, including Governor Bill Lee, state leaders, business owners, and even a surprise guest appearance by Tennessee’s own Nate Bargatze.

The moment we hung up, we all looked at each other and said the same thing:
“Okay ladies, it’s go time.”

🌷 Planning the Perfect Bloom

When it comes to events of this scale, the magic is in the planning — and planning began immediately.

Our mission: to create 90 elegant, cohesive centerpieces that would reflect the sophistication, theme, and colors of the conference, highlight Tennessee’s natural beauty, and bring warmth and freshness to every table.

We started sketching and brainstorming design concepts that would blend southern charm with modern elegance. The palette leaned into creamy whites, soft greens, and cheerful yellows, perfectly complementing both the conference theme and the Embassy Suites’ ballroom décor.

We wanted each table to feel like a reflection of the state itself — vibrant, welcoming, and full of life.

That meant using a combination of white daisies, yellow cremones, blue and green hydrangeas, mini pittosporum, and yellow lilies, all accented with salal leaves for just the right amount of texture.

Each arrangement was designed in a 9-inch round glass cylinder, a timeless base that let the blooms take center stage while adding a clean, polished look to every table.

Then came the whirlwind: ordering, prepping, and processing hundreds upon hundreds of stems. Our walk-in cooler looked more like a mini botanical garden than a shop fridge. And through it all, we kept our humor close at hand.

“Who needs sleep when you’ve got flowers and caffeine?” quickly became our unofficial team slogan.

🌼 Design Days and Long Nights

As the shipments arrived, Veda’s Flowers transformed into a full-scale production studio. Every surface was covered in blooms, buckets, vases, ribbon, and a healthy dose of creative energy.

We divided and conquered: Rhonda handled logistics and scheduling, Kim managed orders and supplies, and Mindy — our master designer — orchestrated the artistic vision with her signature blend of precision and creativity.

Each arrangement had to be consistent but still feel alive. We didn’t want factory-perfect — we wanted florist-perfect. That meant balancing uniformity with natural movement, giving each piece personality while keeping the collection cohesive.

There’s a rhythm to large-scale event design — part choreography, part beautiful chaos. You work to music, laugh through exhaustion, dodge extension cords, and pray that your lilies open just enough by morning.

By the time the last centerpiece was finished, we felt like marathon runners crossing the floral finish line — tired but triumphant, surrounded by the sweet scent of success (and hydrangeas).

🚚 The U-Haul, the Early Morning, and the Big Delivery

Delivery day arrived before dawn — literally.

Our alarms went off at 3:30 a.m., and the first words anyone muttered were, “Where’s the coffee?”

With 90 centerpieces to deliver and perfection on the line, we rented a U-Haul for the big transport and recruited husband Brian as our official driver, lifter, and steady-handed hero.

Murfreesboro was still dark and quiet as we carefully loaded each arrangement, padding and securing them like precious cargo.

Every stoplight felt like a small adventure — a careful dance between art and gravity. These weren’t just flowers; they were a reflection of our little shop, our city, and the pride we pour into every petal.

When we arrived at Embassy Suites, the conference setup was already buzzing. Crews adjusted lights, tested microphones, and rolled out table linens. And in we came — a small team of flower fanatics with carts full of color.

One by one, we placed each centerpiece, adjusting angles, checking height balance, and ensuring every bloom was fluffed to perfection. The ballroom slowly came alive — elegant, bright, and ready for the spotlight.

When we finally stepped back, there was a hush — a quiet, satisfied moment of pride.
A small-town flower shop had just set the stage for one of Tennessee’s biggest conferences.

💧 The Secret Ingredient: Maintenance and Perfection

Most people think the job ends once the flowers are delivered — but not for Veda’s Flowers.

For a two-day event, floral maintenance is everything. We returned early the next morning (yes, coffee in hand again) to inspect every single arrangement.

Each vase received fresh water, a stem trim if needed, and a petal refresh to ensure they looked as full and vibrant as Day One. Mindy always says, “A good florist doesn’t just drop off flowers — she babysits them.” And that’s exactly what we did.

We quietly moved through the ballroom between sessions, adjusting placement, fluffing petals, and refreshing as needed so everything stayed camera-ready. When the lights came up for Governor Lee’s keynote and the media rolled in, every arrangement sparkled just as it had on delivery day.

🎉 Moments to Remember

The conference itself was truly inspiring — Governor Bill Lee’s keynote, the breakout sessions full of big ideas for Tennessee’s future, and laughter echoing through the room when Nate Bargatze made his surprise appearance.

But for us, the real joy came when attendees first entered the ballroom. Watching people pause, look around, and smile made all those sleepless nights worth it. Flowers have a way of setting a tone — creating connection and calm before the conversations even begin.

Our phones buzzed all weekend with emails, texts, and social media messages from people at the event, sharing how much they loved the arrangements.

It was heartwarming and humbling all at once. Because for us, it’s never just about flowers — it’s about how they make people feel.

🌺 Reflections from the Team

Rhonda:

“When we started this shop, I never imagined we’d be designing for a statewide conference with 800 people. But here we are! It’s proof that hard work, community love, and attention to detail can take you anywhere — even to the Governor’s table.”

Kim:

“I’ll never forget that moment when the ballroom lights came up and all 90 centerpieces glowed under the chandeliers. It was magical — the kind of moment that makes every late night and early morning completely worth it.”

Mindy:

“For me, it’s about the artistry. Flowers speak a universal language, and this event gave us the chance to show what Murfreesboro talent can do. I wanted every arrangement to feel alive — and it did. I couldn’t be prouder.”

🌹 Gratitude from the Square

We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Lyndi Berrones, Assistant Commissioner of Strategic Initiatives, and the entire Governor’s Conference planning team for trusting us with this incredible opportunity.

To be chosen as the official florist provider for such a prestigious event was truly an honor — one we’ll never forget.

A special thank you goes out to our staff, helpers, and the Murfreesboro community who constantly cheer us on. Whether you stop by for a single rose or follow along on our social media adventures, you’re part of our story. Every success we celebrate belongs just as much to all of you.

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do — because flowers bring people together, spark connection, and spread joy. And when we get to share that joy on such a big stage, we feel like the luckiest little flower shop in Tennessee.

We are thinking that we need some more hot coffee

🌻 What’s Next for Veda’s

Now that the Governor’s Conference is officially “in the books,” we’re back at our cozy corner on the Murfreesboro Square, creating beautiful arrangements for birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, and the upcoming holiday season.

But don’t be surprised if you see us grinning a little wider this week. After all, once you’ve filled a ballroom for 800 guests, even the smallest bouquet feels like part of something bigger.

So here’s to our next big adventure, our next early morning, and every flower that reminds us dreams really do bloom in the most unexpected places.

🕸️ The Magic of Halloween Florals

While others may think of cobwebs and candy corn, at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, Halloween means creativity in full bloom.

Each year, the design team transforms everyday flowers into hauntingly beautiful works of art — witchy, whimsical, and full of fall flavor.

With accents like pumpkin vases, black feathers, and deep jewel tones, their arrangements capture the balance between spooky and sweet.

“October is when flowers get to play dress-up,” Veda laughs. “We mix autumn warmth with Halloween mischief — the result is always magical.”

🧙‍♀️ This Year’s Top 5 “Boo-tiful Bouquets”

Whether you’re setting the scene for a costume party or looking for the perfect hostess gift, these five spellbinding arrangements are sure to be the talk of the town.

🌕 1. The Witch’s Garden

An enchanting mix of purple roses, black calla lilies, and amethyst mums rises dramatically from a black cauldron-style vase. Curly willow twigs add a touch of twisted magic.

Vibe: Mystical and elegant.
Perfect for: Dining tables or Halloween weddings.
Veda’s Tip: Add a sprig of rosemary for a natural fragrance that wards off “tricks.”

🎃 2. Pumpkin Patch Party

Bright and cheerful, this crowd favorite features sunflowers, orange gerbera daisies, and golden mums bursting from a real pumpkin vase.

Vibe: Cozy, classic, and family-friendly.
Perfect for: School events, porch displays, or dinner tables.
Veda’s Tip: Pop in a flameless candle for a glowing effect after dark!

🕯️ 3. Phantom of the Flowera

A hauntingly romantic arrangement of ivory carnations, black roses, and dusty eucalyptus, wrapped in sheer tulle and tied with a satin bow.

Vibe: Vintage gothic glamour.
Perfect for: Masquerade parties or moody October weddings.
Veda’s Tip: Pair with silver candleholders or antique glassware for an eerie elegance.

🍬 4. Trick-or-Treat Trellis

A whimsical blend of orange lilies, purple daisies, and candy-corn-colored chrysanthemums arranged in a vase filled with sweets.

Vibe: Playful and colorful.
Perfect for: Offices, classrooms, or kids’ parties.
Veda’s Tip: Replace the candies every few days — it keeps both your bouquet and your trick-or-treaters happy!

🌹 5. The Midnight Rose

Classic red roses meet dark velvet foliage in this moody masterpiece. Subtle glittered cobwebs shimmer in candlelight.

Vibe: Dark romance.
Perfect for: Date nights, Halloween anniversaries, or dramatic décor.
Veda’s Tip: Place near dim lighting for a romantic glow worthy of Dracula’s castle.

🦇 Spooky Style for Every Gathering

Halloween gatherings don’t need to be frightful to be festive. With the right floral touches, your home can transform into a haunted harvest haven.

Here are a few decorating tips from Veda’s team of floral magicians:

🕯️ Centerpieces That Cast a Spell

Use arrangements like The Witch’s Garden or The Midnight Rose as dining focal points. Surround with small pumpkins, faux ravens, or tea lights.

🌻 Porch Power

Pair a Pumpkin Patch Party bouquet with corn stalks, hay bales, and friendly scarecrows. It’s an instant “welcome witches” moment!

🧛 Photo-Op Corners

Design a “Boo-tanical Backdrop” with vines, orange blooms, and a skeleton holding a bouquet. Guests will love taking photos!

🕸️ Haunted Hues

Play with colors — orange, purple, black, and green — for an instantly festive palette. Add gold for extra enchantment.

🏛️ Haunted History on the Murfreesboro Square

The Murfreesboro Public Square has a long tradition of storytelling and celebration. During October, the square becomes a living postcard — twinkling lights, costumed families, and small businesses decked out in their Halloween best.

Locals and visitors alike gather for the Trick or Treat on the Square, where children collect candy and adults admire the autumn décor.

Veda’s Flowers & Gifts joins the fun by decorating its windows with pumpkins, black lace, and whimsical floral ghosts that “float” in the display.

“It’s one of our most favorite times of fall season,” says Rhonda. “You can feel the joy and imagination in the air — it’s what our shop is all about.”

🕯️ Frightfully Fun Floral Add-Ons

Want to make your Halloween bouquet even more spellbinding? Veda’s offers seasonal extras that bring your design to life:

  • Mini Pumpkin Picks 🎃

  • Glow-in-the-Dark Roses 💡

  • Spiderweb Ribbons & Witch Hat Accents 🕸️

  • Cinnamon Broomsticks 🌾

  • Candy Vase Fillers 🍬

Each arrangement can be customized for your Halloween party, gift, or centerpiece.

💐 Behind the Magic: The Floral Workshop

Behind every Boo-tiful Bouquet is a team of creative florists working their autumn magic. The scent of cinnamon and clove fills the air as pumpkins are polished, ribbons are curled, and flowers are trimmed to perfection.

This year’s inspiration came from Murfreesboro’s own fall scenery — the red maples, golden sunsets, and historic brick storefronts of the downtown square.

“Every arrangement tells a story,” says one designer. “Whether it’s a witch’s cauldron or a pumpkin centerpiece, our goal is to make people smile.”

Wine, Roses & Rutherford Pride: Our Night at Wine Around the Square

If there’s one night every fall when Murfreesboro truly sparkles, it’s Wine Around the Square live event downtown on our historic public square— that magical evening when music, food, spirits, laughter, and pink ribbons fill our beloved downtown. It starts from the first pour to the final song, it’s not just about tasting fine wines — it’s about tasting the goodness of community.

And for us at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, affectionately known by many as “the little flower shop on the square,” it was a night to remember — full of friendship, generosity, and yes… hundreds of long-stem roses that found new homes in the hands of smiling guests.

🍷 What is “Wine Around the Square”?

If you’re new to Murfreesboro or just haven’t yet experienced this incredible event, Wine Around the Square (WATS) is a progressive wine and spirits-tasting celebration that winds its way through the charming shops and restaurants of Historic Downtown Murfreesboro.

Each stop offers something special — from fine wines and cocktails to small bites, live music, and warm welcomes from local business owners.

But what makes it truly beautiful is its purpose:

All proceeds go to the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation’s Power of Pink Fund, supporting breast cancer awareness, prevention, and care right here in Rutherford County.

The program funds mammograms, screenings, diagnostics, ultrasounds, and MRI scans. It helps cover transportation and lodging for patients during treatment, and even supplies life-saving equipment. In short — every glass raised helps save lives.

A special shoutout goes to Stones River Total Beverages, who provide all the wine and spirits each year, making the event possible for thousands of attendees and dozens of downtown businesses.

🌹 “That Little Flower Shop on the Corner”

This year, our shop was buzzing long before the first cork popped.

We had volunteers working behind the counter, serving up bubbly spritzers to the steady stream of guests making their way around the square. These four lovely ladies were so much fun to be around.

The energy was contagious — laughter, conversation, and the sound of clinking glasses, cups and wine tumblers filled the crisp October air.

Before the evening even hit full swing, we’d handed out 200 plus long-stem roses to the ladies visiting our shop. Each rose carried a simple message: You’re beautiful, you’re strong, and you’re appreciated.

The reactions? Absolutely priceless.

We’ll never forget the moment two women walked by our storefront, one holding her rose like a trophy. Her friend gasped and asked,

“Oh my gosh, where did you get that beautiful rose?”

She smiled and pointed down the street, saying, “Down there — at that little flower shop on the corner.”

We chuckled to ourselves. Close enough, we thought. Around here, we’re known as “The Little Flower Shop on the Square.” And on nights like this, it feels like every petal we give out helps our town bloom just a little brighter.

🎶 A Toast to Good Music and Good Company

The heartbeat of the night pulsed from the main stage where the Mixtape ’80s Tribute Band played one crowd favorite after another. Their selections all night long was a blast to the past.

Neon lights reflected off wine glasses as couples danced in the street. You could almost feel time rewind to the days of big hair, cassette tapes, and rock ballads.

“Don’t Stop Believin’” echoed around the courthouse square — and honestly, how perfect is that for an event that’s all about hope and perseverance?

We loved watching our fellow shop owners and restaurant partners having a blast, too. From The Alley on Main to Clay Pit and Tennessee Craft Butchers, every business brought their A-game. The food smelled divine, the drinks sparkled, and every corner of downtown felt alive.

As the night went on, we took turns sneaking out to visit our neighbors’ stations, tasting a few wines and chatting with friends old and new.

It’s one of our favorite parts of the evening — supporting one another, laughing together, and seeing just how far this event has come since it first began.

💗 The Heart Behind the Event: The Power of Pink

While Wine Around the Square is an absolute blast, the true heart of the evening is the Power of Pink Fund — and its mission is deeply personal to so many in our community.

This year marked the 14th annual Wine Around the Square, and it continues to be Rutherford County’s premier fundraiser in the fight against breast cancer.

Since its inception, this event has raised more than $2 million, funding over 24,000 mammograms, distributing 779 breast cancer education books, and — just in 2024 — providing 639 rides to and from treatment.

Those numbers represent more than statistics — they’re stories of mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends who were given the chance to fight, heal, and thrive thanks to the generosity of this community. And that’s something worth raising a glass to.

🩷 Honoring a Visionary: Patty Marschel

This year’s event was dedicated to Patty Marschel, a beloved Murfreesboro resident and community leader whose compassion helped turn Wine Around the Square into what it is today.

Nearly two decades ago, Patty hosted a simple gathering with friends — a wine and cheese evening inspired by her best friend’s breast cancer diagnosis.

What began as a small show of support has since grown into a signature event that now draws thousands of people and spans multiple city blocks.

Patty’s vision, passion, and commitment have made a profound difference.

She has served on the Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Hospital Board of Directors for 19 years, becoming its first female chair two years ago.

Through her leadership and community engagement, she’s helped expand access to care, grow the Power of Pink Fund, and bring a second mobile mammography coach to serve 26 counties across Middle Tennessee.

And perhaps most inspiring of all — her best friend Susan Loyd, whose diagnosis sparked the very first fundraiser, is now a 20-year breast cancer survivor. Their friendship remains the heartbeat of this cause.

When Patty says, “It is not me. It’s the people like Charlie and PJ Patel and the Stones River Total Beverages team who donate all the wine and spirits, the 150+ volunteers who give their time, and the local businesses who support us,” we can’t help but nod in agreement.

Because it’s true — this community shows up for one another. And we’re proud to be one of the local shops standing shoulder to shoulder in that effort.

🥂 Cheers to Community

The thing we love most about Wine Around the Square is how it blends celebration with purpose.

Yes, there’s wine. Yes, there’s music. But beneath it all, there’s this current of compassion and shared pride that makes Murfreesboro such a special place to live and work.

From the early-evening VIP party to the lively crowd dancing under the courthouse lights, the energy is pure joy. We met visitors from all over the county (and even a few from out of state!) who couldn’t stop talking about how friendly and welcoming our downtown is.

Many were return guests who remembered visiting our shop in previous years. One even told us, “I still have the rose you gave me last year — I dried it and kept it in a vase.”

Moments like that remind us why we do what we do.

💐 Reflections from the Team at Veda’s Flowers

As the evening wound down and the last few spritzers were served, our team stood outside the shop watching the glow of string lights and hearing the faint echoes of the band’s final encore.

We couldn’t help but feel grateful — for our neighbors, our customers, and everyone who supports this incredible event.

Every year, Wine Around the Square gets a little bigger, a little brighter, and a little more impactful.

And every year, we’re honored to be part of it — representing small businesses, spreading joy through flowers, and cheering for those who fight breast cancer with courage and grace.

🌸 Until Next Year…

So, here’s to the women we celebrate, the survivors we honor, and the community we love.

Here’s to Patty Marschel and her enduring vision, to Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford Foundation for its tireless work, to Stones River Total Beverages for keeping the glasses full, and to everyone who walked the square with purpose and pride.

And, of course, here’s to the many hands that helped make the night unforgettable — from volunteers to musicians, from restaurant chefs to business owners, from rose-givers to rose-receivers.

We can’t wait to see what next year brings. We’ll be here — at that little flower shop on the square — ready with fresh blooms, friendly faces, and maybe a few more surprises up our sleeves.

Until then, keep raising your glasses, your hopes, and your hearts. Because together, we make Murfreesboro shine.

Autumn Awakened: Downtown Murfreesboro Through the Lens of Early Fall

It’s mid-October in downtown Murfreesboro, and the air is filled with that unmistakable whisper of change. The sun still shines brightly on the courthouse dome by day, but as evening arrives, a cool, gentle breeze carries the scent of autumn leaves and something cozy in the distance — maybe a neighbor’s first fire of the season or the aroma of pumpkin and cinnamon scents drifting from a downtown café. Fall is tiptoeing in, slow but steady, and everyone on the square can feel it coming alive.

We’re now just past the midpoint of October, and while the trees are only beginning to turn, you can see hints of transformation everywhere. The greens of summer are giving way to soft yellows, rustic oranges, and warm reds, painting a preview of what’s to come.

The air has grown crisp enough that evening strolls call for sweaters and scarves, and coffee cups are steaming again in friendly hands all across the public square.

Around the square, local shops like Trendy Pieces and restaurants are embracing the season with joyful creativity.

Storefronts are decked out in warm fall colors, pumpkins sit proudly on doorsteps, and the faint sparkle of Halloween decorations peek out from behind glass displays.

From cozy cafés with maple lattes to boutiques showcasing scarves and handmade crafts, the town feels wrapped in an inviting autumn glow.

And of course, no fall scene in Tennessee would be complete without mums — those quintessential flowers of autumn. Bursting with traditional seasonal hues of gold, deep orange, burgundy, and plum, these cheerful blooms line the sidewalks, doorways, and planters around the courthouse.

They bring a warmth that balances perfectly with the crispness of the season, reminding everyone that even as the year begins to wind down, nature is still very much alive and vibrant.

It’s that perfect in-between moment — when the promise of fall is here, but winter hasn’t yet knocked. Murfreesboro seems to hum with anticipation, knowing that the season of comfort, color, and community gatherings has just begun.

And right at the heart of it all sits Historic Downtown Murfreesboro, ready to welcome locals and visitors alike to experience the magic of autumn.

🍷 Wine Around the Square: A Toast to Community and Compassion

There’s no better way to celebrate the season than with one of Murfreesboro’s most cherished traditions — the 14th Annual Wine Around the Square, happening Saturday, October 25th from 6–9 PM right here in Historic Downtown Murfreesboro.

Imagine strolling the square under a canopy of twinkling lights, sipping fine wines, nibbling on delicious local bites, and listening to the sweet sounds of live music as the night unfolds.

Friends and families gather, laughter echoes between historic buildings, and the spirit of community fills the crisp evening air. But beyond the fun and festivity lies a purpose that touches the heart — all proceeds from the evening support the Power of Pink Fund at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford, helping provide essential breast cancer screenings, awareness, and support for those in need.

It’s more than a night out — it’s an evening of compassion and connection, where every toast is also a tribute to courage and hope.

As always, Veda’s Flowers & Gifts will be open and glowing with fall color during the event.

Whether you’re picking up a bouquet, browsing our seasonal gifts, or just stopping in to say hello between wine tastings, our team will be ready to share in the warmth and celebration of the night.

🌻 The Square in Bloom: A Photographer’s Dream

Even before the leaves reach their fiery peak, Downtown Murfreesboro in October is a photographer’s dream.

The historic Rutherford County Courthouse stands proudly in the center, surrounded by charming storefronts and the gentle rustle of early autumn leaves. As you stroll around the square, every shop window becomes a frame-worthy scene — a collage of color, creativity, and community pride.

You’ll find chrysanthemums spilling from planters, pumpkin stacks greeting visitors at doorways, and delicate strands of lights creating a soft, golden glow as twilight falls.

Many of the shop owners, including our team at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, take pride in decorating for the season — not just to attract attention, but to help tell the story of Murfreesboro’s welcoming spirit.

For locals and visitors alike, this is the perfect time to grab your camera (or phone) and take a little photo tour through town. The way sunlight filters through the trees downtown on the public square, the reflections in downtown windows, and the smiles of passersby all come together to create something timeless.

It’s autumn through the lens of home — familiar, warm, and filled with heart.

🌼 Veda’s Flowers & Gifts: Where Fall Blossoms Indoors

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, autumn is more than just a season — it’s an art form. As “the little flower shop on the square,” we take pride in reflecting the beauty of the outdoors right inside our doors. Step inside, and you’ll be greeted with rich fragrances, earthy tones, and floral designs that celebrate everything we love about fall.

Our arrangements are inspired by the harvest: orange roses, rustic dahlias, red alstroemeria, golden mums, and sprigs of wheat and eucalyptus.

We love weaving together these textures and colors to create pieces that feel warm, abundant, and full of life. Whether you’re decorating your dining table, brightening up your home office, or gifting someone special, our autumn arrangements capture that cozy, golden feeling of the season.

You’ll also find shelves filled with fall gifts and home décor — seasonal candles, hand-tied wreaths, and thoughtful keepsakes perfect for the months ahead.

We even carry specialty items that make wonderful hostess gifts for upcoming gatherings like Friendsgiving or Thanksgiving. Every detail is chosen to help you celebrate fall in the most beautiful way possible.

🍁 Downtown Vibes: Where Every Street Has a Story

There’s something magical about walking through downtown Murfreesboro in the fall.

The rhythm of the city slows down just enough to notice the details — the way the courthouse clock strikes against the evening air, or how the scent of roasted coffee and baked apples drifts down the sidewalks.

Each street tells a story. A few blocks just off the square off West Main Street, the aroma of fantastic cuisine permeates out from The Alley on Main, while the laughter of families enjoying dinner spills from Puckett’s Grocery.

You can catch the sparkle of string lights at Liquid Smoke or the sound of cheers for their favorite sports teams or live music at Boro Bourbon & Brews. Every storefront feels like an invitation to pause and enjoy the moment. As day turns to night, the square glows softly — a living postcard of southern hospitality wrapped in autumn color.

It’s the kind of scene that makes you fall in love with Murfreesboro all over again, year after year.

🎃 Fall Decorating Fever (and How Flowers Tie It All Together)

Fall decorating fever has officially hit downtown — and it’s contagious! Everywhere you look, the square is bursting with seasonal cheer. Shop owners are competing (in friendly fashion, of course) for the most festive displays, and there’s a shared excitement in transforming every corner into a celebration of the season.

You’ll see cheerful scarecrows standing guard, stacked pumpkins of every size, and those signature mums in shades of goldenrod, maroon, and deep orange anchoring the displays.

At Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we love being part of that transformation — helping local businesses and residents add floral magic to their autumn décor.

If you’re decorating your home for the season, try one of these easy ideas:

Add a rustic fall centerpiece with orange roses, bronze mums, and eucalyptus sprigs. Decorate your porch with potted mums and mini pumpkins for instant curb appeal. Bring warmth inside with candles and floral wreaths that match your home’s autumn color palette.

Or surprise a friend or family member with a Veda’s autumn bouquet — the perfect pick-me-up for shorter days and cooler nights. Sometimes, it’s the smallest touches that make a house feel like home — especially in fall.

🌙 When the Sun Sets on the Square

As the sun sets behind the courthouse and the glow of the streetlights takes over, downtown Murfreesboro transforms once again. The air feels cool and calm, the chatter softens, and the reflections of autumn colors shimmer in the shop windows. It’s the perfect time for a slow stroll. Maybe grab a cup of hot cider or stop by your favorite restaurant for a cozy meal.

If you happen to wander near our little shop, you’ll see our windows twinkling with candlelight and floral displays that glow like embers in the evening light.

This is what we love about fall — it’s not just about the colors or the chill in the air. It’s about those small, comforting moments that make life feel full and meaningful.

💖 Supporting Something Bigger

Events like Wine Around the Square remind us that Murfreesboro’s beauty isn’t just in its architecture or flowers — it’s in its people. The way the community comes together to support something bigger is what truly makes this place special.

The Power of Pink Fund at Ascension Saint Thomas Rutherford helps women across Rutherford County gain access to lifesaving screenings and care.

Each ticket, each glass of wine, each donation helps make a difference. So when you raise your glass on October 25th, know that you’re part of something truly impactful — a shared spirit of hope and love that blossoms far beyond the square.

🌾 From Rhonda, Kim, Mindy & Max at The Little Flower Shop on the Square

As the trees continue to turn and the evenings grow cooler, we can’t help but feel grateful to be part of this wonderful community. Autumn brings with it a sense of reflection and renewal — a reminder that beauty can be found in every change.

Whether you’re joining us for Wine Around the Square, visiting for a bouquet, or simply taking in the sights, we invite you to stop by Veda’s Flowers & Gifts.

Come see our fall displays, breathe in the scent of fresh blooms, and maybe take home a piece of autumn’s charm.

Because here at the little flower shop on the square, we believe that every season tells a story — and fall is one of our favorites. 🍁

Season of Scent: Adding Fragrance to Your Autumn Arrangements

There is one distinct thing you almost always recognize by mid-October and that's when there are particular flowers and herbs that actually smell like fall.

Autumn has its own aroma — a comforting blend of spice, wood, and warmth that feels like coming home. The right flowers and herbs can capture that magic perfectly.

Think of marigolds with their peppery scent, roses that whisper honey and apple, or chrysanthemums that smell like crisp fall mornings. These blooms don’t just add color to your home; they wrap every room in that unmistakable, cozy fragrance that says the season has changed.

To deepen that autumn aroma, mix in fragrant herbs like rosemary, sage, thyme, and lavender. Their earthy, soothing notes complement the richness of fall flowers and create a scent that lingers in the air — warm, nostalgic, and alive with memory. Together, these flowers and herbs don’t just decorate your space; they tell a story of harvest time, bonfires, and golden afternoons on the square.

The Autumn Air Arrives

There’s something about the first cool breeze of fall that feels like nature’s own sigh of relief. The heat of summer slips away, and in its place comes a crisp scent — part woodsmoke, part spice, part nostalgia.

Here at Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, we love celebrating that magical transition, when the town square of Murfreesboro, Tennessee glows under the gold of turning leaves and the aroma of pumpkin pie wafts from nearby cafés.

And inside our cozy shop — affectionately known as The Little Flower Shop on the Square — we turn that seasonal spirit into something you can take home: autumn floral arrangements that smell like fall itself.

Because while color catches your eye, scent captures your soul. The right fragrance can transport you — to grandma’s kitchen, to an orchard after rain, to a bonfire with friends.

That’s why this season, we’re focusing not just on the look of fall flowers, but on the fragrance of fall — the warm, woodsy, spicy, sweet, and herbal notes that make autumn arrangements come alive.

Why Scent Matters in Autumn Arrangements

You’ve probably noticed that certain smells can instantly shift your mood. Cinnamon means comfort. Pine feels clean. A whiff of lavender can melt stress faster than a candle flame.

When creating floral designs for autumn, fragrance is the invisible design element — one that adds warmth, depth, and memory. The right combination of flowers and herbs doesn’t just fill a vase; it fills a room with seasonal atmosphere.

At Veda’s Flowers, we treat scent as an artist treats light. It’s not enough for an arrangement to look like fall — with burnt orange mums, crimson dahlias, or golden sunflowers — it should smell like it, too.

So, let’s explore the flowers, herbs, and natural elements that can transform your home into a fragrant fall haven.

Top Fragrant Flowers of Fall

🌼 Marigolds – The Spice of Autumn

Marigolds are the unsung heroes of fall fragrance. Their scent is bold, earthy, and slightly spicy — a perfect companion to pumpkins and pinecones. Often used in harvest décor and festivals around the world, marigolds bring both vibrancy and vitality to seasonal displays.

At Veda’s, we love pairing them with deep burgundy mums and rustic wheat stalks for a farm-fresh centerpiece that smells like a late-October garden.

Scent notes: peppery, earthy, herbal
Pair with: wheat grass, rosemary, or orange slices for balance

🌹 Garden Roses – The Autumn Romance

While most people think of roses as a spring or summer bloom, garden varieties like David Austin’s “Patience” and “Juliet” thrive in fall arrangements. Their lush, multi-petaled faces and nostalgic perfume bring elegance to the rustic season.

A cluster of pale peach roses surrounded by copper leaves and seed pods instantly transforms a simple bouquet into something cinematic — like a stroll through a Victorian garden just after the first frost.

Scent notes: soft tea, honey, apple
Pair with: cedar, sage, or cinnamon sticks for contrast

🌻 Sunflowers – The Subtle Sweetness

The scent of a sunflower isn’t as strong as a rose, but its light, honey-like aroma has an earthy charm.

Combined with hay, strawflower, or dried herbs, sunflowers add a clean, wholesome sweetness that feels like sunshine trapped in a vase.

Scent notes: mild honey, nutty earth
Pair with: eucalyptus, dried orange, or thyme for a country-fresh touch

🌾 Chrysanthemums – The Quintessential Fall Flower

The mum is autumn’s official ambassador. But did you know some varieties are wonderfully aromatic? The “Anemone” and “Spider” types often have a light herbal scent, while the traditional garden mum can smell faintly of green apple or spice.

At our shop, we love using them in door wreaths and harvest centerpieces. Combine bronze mums with cinnamon brooms, dried citrus, and pinecones, and you’ll have a decoration that smells like a Tennessee harvest fair.

Scent notes: crisp, floral, slightly spicy
Pair with: sage, cinnamon, or cedar

🌿 Stock – The Hidden Perfume

Stock flowers bloom in shades of cream, lilac, and pink — and they smell divine. Their sweet, clove-like aroma makes them perfect for autumn weddings or evening gatherings.

In fact, if you’ve ever walked by our shop windows on a cool evening and caught a hint of something sweet, chances are it was stock.

Scent notes: clove, vanilla, and spice
Pair with: bay leaves or maroon dahlias for a sophisticated look

Aromatic Herbs That Smell Like Fall

If flowers are the melody of an arrangement, herbs are the harmony.

They layer scent, texture, and color — and they last long after blooms fade. Adding herbs is one of our signature Veda’s touches, because it gives every bouquet that “what’s that amazing smell?” factor.

Here are our autumn favorites:

🌿 Rosemary – The Woodland Wonder

Piney, clean, and comforting — rosemary smells like the inside of a cedar chest and a Thanksgiving kitchen combined. Its upright stems also add height and structure to arrangements.

We love tucking sprigs into fall wedding bouquets or pairing them with orange roses and dried berries for a woodland-chic centerpiece.

Scent notes: pine, spice, wood
Pair with: marigolds, sage, or cinnamon sticks

🌿 Sage – The Ancient Autumn Healer

Beyond its culinary fame, sage has a grounding, herbal scent long associated with protection and renewal. When dried, it releases a smoky aroma reminiscent of campfires and cozy nights.

At Veda’s, we often blend purple sage leaves into arrangements featuring pumpkins, pinecones, and dried thistle — giving each display an earthy, mystical air.

Scent notes: smoky, herbal, earthy
Pair with: lavender, eucalyptus, or bronze mums

🌿 Thyme – The Gentle Aroma of Home

Thyme’s fragrance is both subtle and nostalgic — a whisper of gardens and slow-cooked stews. In floral design, its tiny leaves add texture and charm.

We sometimes create “kitchen bouquets” combining thyme, oregano, and marjoram, perfect for gifting to home cooks who love both beauty and flavor.

Scent notes: green, warm, slightly lemony
Pair with: roses, stock, or dried wheat

🌿 Lavender – The Soothing Classic

Though lavender is more of a summer bloom, dried lavender keeps its scent beautifully into fall. The calm, herbal aroma blends surprisingly well with the spicier autumn palette.

We often bundle it with rust-colored ribbon, orange roses, and cinnamon bark for a fragrance that’s part spa, part pumpkin patch.

Scent notes: floral, herbal, calming
Pair with: cinnamon, cloves, or eucalyptus

🌿 Mint – The Refreshing Contrast

Spearmint and peppermint add brightness to heavier autumn scents. A few sprigs tucked among maroon roses or orange zinnias give an unexpected freshness — like that first breath of cool morning air.

Scent notes: crisp, cool, sweet
Pair with: marigold, sage, or sunflower

Unexpected Fragrant Additions

Here’s where we get creative — because at Veda’s Flowers, we believe arrangements should surprise the senses. Try these unconventional, fall-friendly add-ins:

  • Dried orange slices – Sweet and citrusy, they brighten any bouquet.

  • Cinnamon sticks – Warm and spicy; tie them with raffia or ribbon.

  • Star anise – Pretty as a snowflake, and smells like licorice and pie.

  • Pinecones – Add a touch of forest and faint resin scent.

  • Clove-studded apples – A fun DIY touch that fills the air with fall spice.

  • Vanilla pods – Subtle but irresistible when paired with creamy blooms.

  •

Building a Fragrant Fall Arrangement: Step-by-Step

You don’t need to be a professional florist to make something beautiful and aromatic for your home. Here’s how we at Veda’s build our “Season of Scent” arrangements.

1. Choose Your Mood

Think about the atmosphere you want to create:

  • Warm & Cozy: cinnamon, sage, marigold, and cedar

  • Bright & Crisp: sunflower, thyme, mint, and citrus

  • Romantic & Moody: rose, stock, lavender, and anise

  •

Your scent palette should match your décor — and your memories.

2. Pick a Focal Flower

Start with a main bloom that represents your theme. For fall, that might be a garden rose, chrysanthemum, or sunflower. Place it front and center.

3. Layer the Aromatic Greens

Now add herbs and foliage with strong scent character — rosemary, sage, or eucalyptus. Don’t be afraid to mix textures: fuzzy leaves next to glossy stems make arrangements feel alive.

4. Add Accent Fragrance

Intersperse your “flavor notes” — dried orange, cinnamon, or clove — throughout the design. This ensures scent is released from every angle.

5. Balance Color and Form

Autumn loves asymmetry. A little wildness feels natural — like leaves scattered by the wind. Use warm tones (amber, rust, burgundy, cream) and let each stem lean slightly free.

6. Finish with a Seasonal Touch

We often wrap our fall bouquets in burlap or kraft paper, tied with twine or plaid ribbon. It’s rustic, fragrant, and sustainable — the perfect finishing flourish for a seasonal gift.

Scented Spaces: Decorating with Autumn Aroma

An arrangement doesn’t have to stay in the middle of the table. Here are some creative ways we’ve helped customers use fragrance throughout their homes and events:

✨ Entryway Welcome Jars

Small mason jars filled with rosemary, orange peel, and mums greet guests with a whiff of warmth as soon as they step inside.

🍁 Fireplace Garland

Wind eucalyptus, sage, and dried flowers along your mantle. Add cinnamon sticks for a scent that deepens with every flicker of the fire.

🕯️ Bathroom Bloom Bottles

Lavender, mint, and thyme tied with string over tiny glass bottles — pretty and purifying.

🍂 Dinner Table Arrangements

For gatherings, we use low-profile designs with soft scents (like stock and rose) so they don’t overpower the food. Guests always comment on the cozy atmosphere.

🎁 Gift Baskets & Aromatic Add-Ons

We’ve created “Fall Comfort Baskets” filled with dried floral sachets, herbal candles, and mini arrangements — all infused with the signature Veda’s scent blend: sage, citrus, and cinnamon.

Behind the Blooms: Veda’s Autumn Workshop

Every October, as Murfreesboro’s courthouse clock ticks toward cooler weather, our team starts unpacking bundles of herbs from local growers. The backroom fills with aroma — part greenhouse, part kitchen, part dreamland.

We call this time “The Season of Scent.”

Buckets of rosemary stand beside boxes of cinnamon sticks. Garden roses arrive from regional farms. And our designers — with coffee mugs steaming and music humming — experiment like perfumers, blending natural notes until the balance feels right.

Customers often stop by just to breathe it all in. We’ve even had people say, “I could live in this smell.”

That’s the highest compliment a flower shop can get.

DIY Project: Make Your Own Autumn Potpourri

If you want to bottle that feeling, try this simple recipe inspired by our shop’s seasonal blend:

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup dried orange slices

  • ½ cup whole cloves

  • ½ cup cinnamon sticks (broken pieces)

  • ½ cup dried rose petals

  • ¼ cup dried rosemary

  • ¼ cup sage leaves

  • Optional: a few drops of vanilla or cedar essential oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl.

  2. Store in a sealed glass jar for 3–5 days to let the scents marry.

  3. Display in open bowls around your home — or spoon into sachets for drawers and closets.

This potpourri not only looks pretty but makes your space smell like fall in Murfreesboro — comforting, woodsy, and sweetly spiced.

The Science of Scent Memory

There’s real magic behind why certain aromas make us feel nostalgic. The brain’s olfactory bulb, which processes smell, is directly connected to the amygdala and hippocampus — the centers for emotion and memory.

That’s why a single sniff of cinnamon or pine can instantly transport you back to a childhood Thanksgiving or a walk through the forest.

When we design fall arrangements at Veda’s Flowers, we think about that science — how to create memory triggers through fragrance. Each bouquet becomes more than decoration; it’s a sensory time capsule.

Our Top 5 Signature “Scent of Fall” Arrangements

These are our shop’s best-selling autumn aromatics — each one crafted to capture a different side of the season:

  1. Harvest Spice – Marigolds, cinnamon sticks, bronze mums, and sage. Warm and inviting, like apple cider by the fire.

  2. Golden Orchard – Sunflowers, dried oranges, and thyme with pops of green hydrangea. Fresh and bright for kitchens and foyers.

  3. Woodland Whisper – Roses, rosemary, cedar, and pinecones. A deep, romantic forest fragrance.

  4. Pumpkin Patch Posy – Petite bouquet arranged inside a real mini pumpkin, with lavender, eucalyptus, and stock. Whimsical and calming.

  5. Sweet Tennessee Twilight – Cream roses, dried wheat, and clove-studded apples, tied in plaid ribbon. Perfect for Murfreesboro sunsets.

Veda’s Tip: Keep the Fragrance Flowing

  • Change the water daily to prevent odor build-up.

  • Add a drop of vanilla or essential oil to the vase water for longer scent life.

  • Dry your herbs after the flowers fade — they’ll keep their smell for months.

  • Display near gentle warmth, like a window or lamp (not direct sun), to release scent.
