Nestled in the heart of the community, the shop blooms with life, from the fragrant roses to the laughter of family working side by side to craft something beautiful. Our Story:
We opened our doors in June 2017, driven by a deep desire to honor the memory of our grandmother, Veda Conner. Her daughter, Pat, envisioned a space that reflected her mother's spirit and values, and together with her daughters Rhonda, Kim, and Vickie, brought that vision to life.
It wasn’t easy coming up with the perfect name for the flower shop. For months, the family brainstormed and tossed around ideas, but none of them felt quite right. One sunny weekend afternoon, everyone gathered in Rhonda’s cozy kitchen after having a quick lunch of sandwiches and soup while debating the latest batch of suggestions. The atmosphere was warm and lively, filled with laughter and a hint of frustration—until their mother, Pat, suddenly lit up with excitement.
“I’ve got it!” she exclaimed, her voice cutting through the chatter. “I know the name of the shop!” All eyes turned to her as she smiled and continued, “Veda’s Flowers & Gifts, named after my mother.” For a moment, the room fell silent, and then it was as if a light bulb had gone off for everyone at once. Heads nodded, smiles spread, and the decision was unanimous. It was perfect—elegant, heartfelt, and a beautiful tribute. They knew the name embodied everything they wanted their shop to be: a classy southern gem nestled on the public square, a place as warm and inviting as the name itself.
Rhonda spearheaded the concept of a family-owned and operated business, collaborating with her mother and sisters to create the business plan. Naming the shop "Veda's Flowers & Gifts" was a natural way to keep their grandmother's memory alive. After an extensive search, they secured a prime downtown location with excellent visibility and foot traffic right on the public square in downtown Murfreesboro, setting the stage for their success.
Thoughtful renovations from taking out a few walls, painting, installing new lights and new flooring transformed the space into an inviting floral haven, featuring pastel tones, custom shelving, and energy-efficient lighting. A dedicated workspace downstairs in the basement and installing a walk-in floral cooler streamlined bouquet preparation and deliveries, ensuring efficiency.
To build excitement for the grand opening, the family team implemented a robust promotional strategy. They offered to early customers discount vouchers and collaborated with local businesses for cross-promotions. Social media played a key role in their outreach, with tailored content across Instagram, Facebook, Pinterest and YouTube showcasing their floral expertise and engaging the community. They also prioritized community connections by hosting a pre-launch open house strengthening ties with neighbors and boosting the shop’s reputation. Staff training emphasized excellent customer service, flower care, floral design and personalized attention to the smallest of details, ensuring a unique shopping experience.
Our beloved mother, Pat "Nana" Patterson, who was the heart of our family and our greatest cheerleader, passed away in November 2022. Nana’s warmth and charisma touched everyone she met. Her radiant smile and contagious laugh lit up every room, and her enchanting sense of humor brought joy to countless lives. She left an indelible mark on all of us, and her memory continues to inspire us every day.
Sister Vickie, a trailblazer in her own right, has since retired but remains a cherished part of our story. Her incredible expertise in the florist industry and unmatched design skills were pivotal in shaping the foundation of Veda's team. Vickie’s early contributions set a high standard for creativity and excellence, which we continue to honor as we grow and evolve.
Ribbon Cutting - Grand Opening
Final touches, such as a welcoming storefront, curated music, and an eye-catching window display, were added just before the Chamber of Commerce Ribbon Cutting Ceremony and Grand Opening launch. The family's meticulous planning, community engagement, and innovative marketing positioned Veda’s Flowers & Gifts for a successful launch, creating a warm, memorable space that honored their family faith and legacy while fostering lasting relationships with customers for years to come.
A pre-launch ceremony was held to offer prayers for the upcoming Veda's Flowers & Gifts business and to bless the storefront building. With all the preparations in place, Veda’s Flowers & Gifts was ready to open its doors. Rhonda and her family’s dedication to thoughtful planning, community engagement, and a strong marketing strategy positioned their shop for success from day one.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have started Veda's Flowers & Gifts with an amazing team by our side. Many of the incredible ladies pictured here were instrumental in those early days, alongside our supportive family members and part-time employees. Our journey has been a true labor of love, with even our own children stepping in to help bring our dream to life.
Our family’s involvement has been a cornerstone of our success. From the very beginning, our children—Aleia, MaKenzie, Lexie, and Chloe—played a vital role in the little flower shop on the square. Their dedication and hard work helped lay the foundation for what Veda’s has become today. Even now, our nieces continue to pitch in during our busiest seasons, like Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day, bringing fresh energy and helping hands to keep everything running smoothly. Our talented full-time designer, Mindy Whittington, brings her creative vision to life in every arrangement. And let's not forget our beloved shop dog, Max, who fills our workspace with joy and companionship.
This journey has been a beautiful testament to the power of family bonds. From one generation to the next, the love and dedication poured into Veda’s Flowers & Gifts are what make it truly special. Sister Time:
Today the little flower shop on the square is driven by sisters Rhonda Hingst and Kim Reynolds as they oversee daily operations with dedication and a love for all things flowers. They handle everything from welcoming and assisting customers in the shop, taking phone orders, and designing arrangements, to ordering flowers and gift items. They make timely deliveries, they update their own social media platforms, and they even sweep the floors.
When we are on delivery together, it's fun to laugh and catch up on everyday life talking mostly about our kids and grandbabies. It's always very rewarding to see all the smiles of people that receive our beautiful arrangements. It warms our hearts to see people so happy and thankful.
We believe in the power of community and are committed to giving back whenever we can. We actively participate in local school fundraisers and church events through donations, always looking for ways to support and make a positive impact in Murfreesboro. We truly appreciate the support our community gives us, and we strive to return that support in every way we can.
